We have chickens in a residential area - the only time we have had a complaint was when we had a rooster which we got rid of.

Call the council. I am not sure if there is anything you can do but let the council sort it otherwise you might end up on that neighbours at war show. Definately don't do the cat thing that is just not right.

Mind you I like chickens and the noise brings warm fuzzies for me so not the best person to give advice. My cat is terrified of chooks. My dog is not, =(. We have chickens not far from us- maybe 50m, & I only know that because the neighbour gave us eggs & invited the kids to go look at them, they certainly don't make much noise. Maybe it's the way they're housed or the breed? Yeah I agree with LF, I dont like the idea of letting cats eat them as its not the chickens fault, but definitely ring the council and see what they can do/suggest.

the limit is 6 here in town. if they have a coop ever a certain size they care, but its smaller than that.
and for them to be loud they have to exceed noise control levels and only then will they remove the chickens

There is a limit of how many chickens you can have on your property in a residential area. 5 isnt that many, im sure its over 10 you are allowed.

im pretty sure its about 20metres from its nearest house. according to the aerial map section on the coucil website

i drew an arrow pointing to where it is...

I would ring the council. Even if they can't do anything, at least there will be a complaint listed against them for future reference.

They have to be a certain distance from the neighbours to have them (well Palmy says that).

I would ring the council and get them to sort it out for you.

our neighbours have about 5 chickens an OMG they are loud.
one neighbour reckons they might have a rooster but we havent heard it crowing. just the incessive stupid chicken noise

they have a proper house thing and a fenced off run with a roof.

all i can find on the local city council website is this and it only mentions roosters

me and the other neighbour hate the bloody things they make noise all the time.

and my dislike isnt helped by an atack when i was 3 where a rooster ripped a whole in my back through 4 layers of clothing...so i dont like chickens much

any ideas as to what to do?
im thinking either A) ring the council and ask for them to be removed
or B) leave the door open so one of the 15 cats in the neighbourhood can have a good game of chase
