A friend of a friend is in this situation and apparently for WINZ one parent must be deemed to be the primary caregiver as they won't give both people the DPB to care for the same child. They have an almost 50/50 split but he has one more hour per week than her which entitles him to the DPB, 20 hours free childcare and to receive child support from her. Its a bit sucky because she is expected to work but is unable to access any childcare subsidies or use any of the 20 hours free during her time with the child.

I have heard of working parents having to pay each other child support even though they share custody equally and have an account for the childs expenses that they contribute equally to. I know with shared custody you both get WWF based on your income. As she is the "bigger" earner she will ahve to pay him child support. I learnt that from a friend who has to pay her ex child support even thou they do shared care.

.. should a father be able to get in the following situation..

- seperated
- shared care of nearly 3 year old (week on week off)
- can't work because of the care arrangements
- currently in the courts to totally sort out care arrangements legally
- live in different towns
