My DD1 slept a lot better when I did that.

Does he sleep better when he's close to you? Does he dose off when feeding? He may had a super actuve mummy radar and just need the closeness. So maybe try putting the cot by the bed so he knows your close? Makes night feeds a lot easier too when you dont have to get up, especially at this time of the year! I find co-sleeping works best for my DD2 as she can feed and I get a full nights sleep.

You can start them on meat as early as 6mths... so introduce this as soon as you can as it helps.

I am wondering if the 2hrly bfeeding might mean that he's not getting good quality milk and is snacking? Not sure, but you could try going back to 3hrly feeding and see if it makes a difference?

If he is teething, wait till his teething comes through and then you could try the Sleep Sense Programme, although it's more challenging when you have a little toddler.

My son has been sleeping from 11pm-7am from around 4mths. I give him a 11pm (woke him to give it) and initially he slept through till 5am and gradually it extended out. But the Sleep Sense programme helped too.

My baby was / is a big baby and kept waking in the night til 10 months but in his case it was definitely hunger cos after a feed he could put himself to sleep from being awake and every 3 hours was his maximum. Some suggestions - I give my baby a dummy and he can find it himself in the night, you might not be in to dummies or he might not like them but it could be one way to solve the problem for now. Also have you tried a bottle, that way you could really work out if it's hunger or comfort. and someone else could do the feeds. My baby worked out how to find his own bottle in the night which was a novel solution to the problem! When my baby was 10 months we did control crying which was a horrible experience but I knew he was old enough to deal with it, and it has worked. Another option that helped us was formula feeding, but again you might not be happy with this.

But obviously do what you think is right, it's so hard being a mummy sometimes!

He constantly feeds. Which is o.k and what he's suppose to do during the day!

if we don't dreamfeed him he still wakes up and 2 hours later.

Bizzy- I know that at 6 months he still needs night feeding and am happy to do 2 feeds max. But not 5 feeds! I did feed my DS1 every 2 - 3 hours right up until 9 months when we cut all night feeds, as i was returning to work full time and needed sleep!.Plus only had him.... things change when there is another child to think of!

This time however have a three year old, who i need to be awake for during the day so can't nap when DS2 does.

I think it's comfort, more than hunger. But how do you stop feeding??? It's also the lenght of the feeding 30 -40 mins longer if i allow!!!!!

    Author: LJsmum
Subject: 33630
Posted: 25 May 2010 at 12:00pm

I'm OVER it! Ds2 is 6 months tomorrow and is waking anywhere from 3 -5 times per night to feed.
I breastfeed. He can sleep from 7pm till 5am and i feed him then. BUT that was only on night, he has been too much waking up!

So here's his night routine same everynight:
6 .15pm Bath
6.30pm last night feed lasts half an hour , has both sides plus a top up of between 100- 200mls of formula what ever he takes.
7pm in bed usually asleep soon after. Self settles or though sometimes has dummy. That i take out onces he's asleep.
10.30pm or 11pm wakes to feed, feeds for half an hour.
2pm wakes to feed, change nappy
4pm or 4.30pm wakes to feed
sometimes wakes at 5.30 or 6am to feed.
up about 7.30 for the day.

his night wake ups do vary slightly.

What i have tried:

dreamfeed at 10.00 or 10.30 Dh does this bottle of formula. Worked for a short while but then he started waking at 1am to feed and every 2 hours after that. So stopped this.

I don't use the dummy to settle in the middle of the night and if i don't feed him he screams and screams! Have left him to scream but has a three year old who wakes up, plus he still needs 1 night feed a this age but WHEN????

Dh going in to settle him, Ds2 screams even more.

feeding him twice only, at 10.30pm and 4am but he still wakes as he doesn't know when i will feed him, of course!

HElP don't know what to do.
He doesn't need to feed 3-5 times a night!
Any suggestions???????????/
