I've never tried a sleeping bag, so can't really help with that ... but what about two pairs of pj's, that would keep him warmer. Callum's been in a sleeping bag since about 6mo and he can stand/climb in his too We had to switch to the ones which zip down as he could get out of the dome ones. He's in a 18-36m Grobag.

TaliP, I have Callum in cotton shortie PJs under his cotton sleeping bag. We don't get the cooler temps in the night though. When we go on holiday I usually put him in long sleeve PJs or add an extra cotton AIO underneath.

My girl hated her sleeping bag -and yip splashed out on a merino one - made her too hot and she hated being restricted
Right now she is in pjs from cotton on, with a long sleeve body suit and socks and has wool blankets under and over

Maybe mine is naturally hot? Yes there are things like sleep suits or blanket suits especially for babies that don't like sleeping bags. Also look on any australian website as they often ship to NZ.

Lily is in a thickish cotton sleep bag from Farmers iygwim, or a thinner one from Pumpkin Patch. She has a singlet, long sleeve body suit, long sleeve AIO, and her sleep bag. Then sheet, aircell blankie, quilt and another blanket. H is in a winter weight go go sleeping bag and wears a short sleeved singlet, socks and long sleeved cotton PJ top and long cotton PJ pants underneath. We have the heater on in his room overnight that keeps it at around 18-20 degrees and he seems to stay nice and warm.

What do you dress babies in under the sleeping bags esp if no sleeves on it? H has been in his merino kids sleeping bag from 5 months and he can crawl and stand in his He is a big boy and there is still a bit of room round the legs.

I have no bright ideas sorry as I don't know what we'd do without it - he goes all around the cot in his sleep. DS didn't like his merino kids sleeping bag when we first tried it (6 - 7 mths). I think it restricted his rolling.
Now he's 9mth+ he's more mobile and doesn't seem to mind it so much.
We usually have him in a cotton-lined polar fleece all-in-one & a singlet. We've got a heater in his room too.

Mine is this one but I had mine made about 100 cm so lots of room. For sleep sacks the merino ones like Merino Kids are really good but probably far too expensive if you don't even know if he'll use it!

I also have a Grobag which sell pretty cheap on Trademe, and there are Snugtime ones which have long sleeves if the room is quite cold (ds gets very cold hands/arms at night so I have been using this lately). Snugtime also make very warm all-in-ones.

If the one you have is very stiff and with velcro then there are many other options which will be much more comfortable for him

What about one of those Peke Moes? It's like a big pillow case with a gap for the head (not the best description sorry) Might be worth a look - here's the link but apparently they are easy to make too Peke Moe

Oh really, well that is good to hear, maybe i just need a different one, the one i got seems quite thick, and quite stiff. (i got it of tm) and it valcros up by the shoulders which he also just pulls off... What sort of sleeping bag did you buy?

My DS's were both big movers in there cot but never had issues with their sleep sacks. DS moves a heap in his sleep, with it getting colder i brought a sleeping bag for him, so that he could be a bit warmer in the night. I put him in it and he screamed his head off. He hated feeling so restricted. I have tried it numerous times but he just screams and it seems not worth it. Question is how am i going to keep him warm when it gets even colder? Is there anything i can get that wont restrict him so much that he can still move about freely but still be warm?? For PJ's he is in fleecy all in ones, with socks and a jumpsuit underneath....
