Xma Ease was a godsend for Ava and i when she was little. She had exactly as you described, horrible dermatitis around her eyes and eyebrows. Some days it as so weepy and horrible she could hardly see. She also had bad cradle cap and dermatitis in her ears not to mention thrush or something similar in her leg folds and neck folds. She was a mess and it was so dry and horrible.

We tried everything - salisalic acid, almond oil, baby oil, steroid creams and nothing worked. Then someone recommended Xma Ease. IT IS WONDERFUL! Seriously, in less then a week her skin had cleared and the dryness was virtually gone. AND it is all natural so it doesnt matter if you accidently get a little bit in his eyes because it doesnt hurt (I tried it on myself!).

ElfsMum you can use micreme on excema. Thats what I have been prescribed for mine and DD's also got prescribed it for DD's thrush in the folds of her legs. dj- yeah he does rub into me.. i tried toothbrush he wasnt happy but might persist.. ah so the dry is excema.. man that spare doc must have been useless..might make an appt with my own one.. mind you it wasnt so dry adn flaky as ithas been since then.. cradle cap mostly gone now i think the baby oil, aveeno and baking soda did it but now he's peeling so much ..:( i might just need to moisturise more often..

Isla has had Cradle Cap pretty bad and its hard to get out cause she has such long hair! Looks like really bad dandruff But I got a Cradle Cap set from Baby City for $25 and it has worked a treat. You get a double sided mit and a double sided comb. With the soft side of the mit, you rub in baby oil (I use the Eco store stuff). Leave for 15mins, then with the textured side ofthe mit, you rub babies head and it takes off most of the crusties. Then use the rubber bristle side of the comb and that roughs up the harder crusty bits (sounds like it would hurt but it doesn't. Isla fell asleep last time I did it! Must be relaxing like being at the hairdresser!) then once it's all been loosened up, use the normal comb side (similar to fine tooth cat flea comb) to remove the flakes from the hair and then shampoo and rinse with water. Most of Isla's has gone now. It came back a wee bit but I'd only done the treatment once so I've done it 3 times now and it's pretty much gone. Good luck!
Otherwise... Lisette sent me a link to a trademe auction for some Manuka Honey cream that is good for Cradle Cap. Search under 'Bath TIme' in the babies section and it's in there. If I can find the auction number again, I'll post it here. My baby had cradle cap near her eyes as well, and using moisturiser on it every nappy change cleared it up quite fast.

I was putting aqueous creme on her head, but it wasn't working - tried olive oil and it irritated her and made her head all red.

Lately she has been scratching her head a lot (and rubbing into DP's whiskers when she gets a chance!), so I took her to the Dr and he said it was excema. - the excema is different looking to the cradle cap - not the chunky yellowy stuff - more dry and flakey.

My plunket nurse told me that cradle cap was itchy - does your baby rub into you with his head to try and scratch is eyebrows? She suggested using an old toothbrush to scrub it off her head in the bath.

doc made a good point.. I used almond oil and a flannel with Jake. Only had to do it once and it never came back.

Nah, combs don't hurt if you're gentle! I know it sounds bad, but we got DD's off with the cat's (very well cleaned) flea comb, nice blunt ends but fine teeth. Ds2 has this as well, looks really bad as has hardly any hair. Is red and angry looking.

ive found that baby oil works well.
rub it on before a sleep, then when he wakes use a comb to lightly scrape the surface and get the chunks out then give it a good brush with a soft bristled baby brush and wash out.

We use baby oil....rub it in 1/2 an hour before their bath, then wash it off in the bath and then brush their hair (with a baby hair brush). Or the Neutrogena T Gel shampoo, DD had really bad scalp when she was little I picked it all off only for it to come back two months later went to the Dr about it as it was annoying me and he suggested using a tiny bit of this shampoo and it works a treat. She hasn't had issues since. The rash is often prominent around the ear, the eyebrows or the eyelids.

found that on wiki but the rest say normally just on scalp.. hmm.

I would be taking him to the doctor. My friends baby had really bad cradle cap like you described, turns out it was eczema and got infected so was all crusty looking like cradle cap.

If it is just cradle cap I found making a paste of baking soda and water and pasting that on and leaving to dry before washing off worked a treat.

I've heard that olive oil isn't very good to use on cradle cap as it can feed the bacteria and cause infection/cradle cap to get worse? Can't be bothered to google to see if that is true or not though!
