I would have thought if you weren't bleeding anymore then it would have gone back to negative if you weren't pregnant again?? After my m/c at 7.5wks (March 08), my doctor did blood tests once a week to check my levels - I only needed two as it was back to 0 two weeks later. I continued to bleed for 2months tho, but then I bled for 2months after giving birth too (and my LMC also did a bloodtest after 6wks to check for retained products which came back clear) so my body must just like bleeding
I hope you get some answers soon - how frustrating! Would be awesome if you *are* pregnant again - but as others have said it would probably be difficult to get pregnant if the tests never went back to negative after the m/c (correct me if I'm wrong, but i'm not sure you can ovulate while you have hcg in your system???). I definitely think a scan is in order though!! Good luck, and if you're not pregnant again now, I hope you are really soon

She suggested I go and see my GP, she is also very interested (from a professional point of view) to hear back from me on what it is.

I have also checked with a head ultrasound /specialist (have a friend that works at a clinic) and they were also really unsure.

I would be really happy if I am PG again but my partner thinks there is no chance – cause of dates and no negative tests.

I will go and see my GP next week and let you all know how I get on....
My GP was really good and sent me for a sequence of HCG bloods to make sure it tracked down to zero (which it did). And 5 weeks after m/c started ... well you can see my ticker (this one is much stickier ). Soo... your body might be taking longer to process the HCG out, there could be retained products, or you could be pg again (you don't have to get AF first). Get GP to do some bloods and then repeat after a couple of days. At least then you will have a good idea of what is going on. And best of luck!

I had retained products for 4 months after a D&C.

My story... I had a missed miscarriage in early October last year, nothing was happening naturally so I went in for a D&C in late October. I was released very quickly afterwards as the bleeding was under control. The bleeding tapered off over the next 2 weeks to a slightly coloured discharge. Then I got light bleeding again.

I went to see my doctor 3 weeks after the D&C as they said to see someone if I was still bleeding past 2 weeks. Over the next couple of months I had scans, internals (more than I like to count), antibiotics and the bleeding went from light to extrememly heavy. HCG levels were tested every second day and had gone down but were still too high. Meanwhile I was still continuously bleeding. I ended up in A&E in January (New Years Day) and again in February with uncontrollable bleeding and huge clots. I was put on medication to control the bleeding and was diagnosed with a possible uterine damage from the D&C. After the February incident my specialist appointment was moved from Priority 3 (6 months wait - hello I've been bleeding for 4 months non-stop!) to urgent.

After a couple of meetings with the specialist I have just been given the all clear 6 months after the whole nightmare began. HCG is down to 1 and I'm off the meds and not bleeding woohoo! Just have to wait for first proper AF. The specialist believes the February incident was my body miscarrying the retained product that was missed with the D&C.

They then sent me in for blood tests every week until the HCG (preg hormone) got below 2.

I started off at 32 (3 weeks after D&C) and ended up at 4 on 29 March (7 weeks after D&C) and they said I was ok to stop doing BT's then. I think if I'd done preg tests all those time, it would have come back as positive as a pg test picks up anything over 5 I think.

So sorry to hear of you loss... I know how it feels.

I thought I got 1st AF 3 March (not sure whether it was) and got 2nd AF 1 April so I'm finally getting back to normal!

I would be very surprised if you still had HCG in your system from your MC, and I would be going to your Dr, either your PG again, or there is something else going on that needs to be investigated. If you can get your Dr to send you for a BT, well 2, then you can see if there is HCG in your system and how much, and if you get tested again a couple of days later then see if its risen (your PG) or stayed teh same. Maybe even ask for an US to see if there is a bub or as Stacey said retained product.
GL hun and I hope its another bubba for you (if thats what you want)

ETA, I know of someone who bled and had been told she had MCed, found out a few weeks later that she was still PG and that she had lost a twin, so that could be a possibility?

Edited by Emmi_

If you had retained products your hcg wouldn't go back to 0. If it were me I'd ring the docs and ask them. About 2 days after I miscarried my preg test was neg so it seems weird that you haven't had a neg test.

    Author: popstress
Subject: 32823
Posted: 13 April 2010 at 1:45pm

Had MC in February (was about 6 weeks) Went to A+E and I took some pills on Thursday 18 February, bled for about 2 weeks on and off.

This whole time I have been doing pregnancy tests – like maybe one a week, because I wanted to know when they turned negative – every single one of them so far has been positive! Which is so frustrating cause I kind of just want to move on now and I still haven’t had a period yet.

So now it is 7 weeks – or 54 days since I took the pills, so I guess I am kind of counting this as the first day of my last period?

I guess what I am asking is do you think I could be PG again, or do you think I need to wait a bit longer for my period to arrive….. lol even as I write this I feel like an idiot, like who really knows the answer but I am more after other peoples thoughts and opinions as opposed to definitive answers which I know I will eventually have to go to my doctor to get.
