DP's caved on the cheeseboard and knife idea...Dork... Its a nice Kauri or Rimu one I can't remember which the knife isn't a pretty one but one I've used in catering before so is good. We could always look for a pretty one I guess, but MEH. I remember my cousin's wedding, we went to her parents place the day after and there were toasters, electric blankets, jugs galore! As long as they open the presents before they went on the honeymoon!!! LOL wouldnt that be stink to get back from your honeymoon in a different country and find all this useful spending money!!! I would have loved a cheeseboard and knife, we don't have one. We did cash / vouchers for our wedding and when giving too - either farmers or mitre 10 - but then most of our friends are already living together and got setting up house stuff already.

I think a nice cheese board and knife is a fine present. Especially if you dont know them very well. Maybe we are "cheap" but I wouldnt generally spend more than $50 on a wedding present unless it was someone we were close to (ie a close family member).

Have to admit we got mostly cash at our wedding but the we live in Aussie so was gonna be hard to bring back.
Presents depend on age and if they are living together too coz honestly what is the point of giving stuff someone already has? That is where gift lists are great! But agree with whoever it was that said can never have too many cheeseboards..

I don't think you're being racist hun, many of the wedding gifts I'd think were great for friends back home are completely innapropriate here in Asia for similar reasons.

Here we give cash. Sad but true! It does make choosing a present a lot easier though

If money isn't cool, then how about a voucher for dinner out at a nice restaurant? Then the focus isn't on alcohol so much.

Those are all great ideas, only thing is and this is going to sound racist or something but completely unintentional.

The couple is an island family so I don't know if they are into canvas' decorative things, or even the cheeseboard. Also because they are islanders not sure if they drink. Well I know he does haha as he was wasted on Sat night at his stag night at DPs work. Aggghhhh even DP doesn't know what to do

Hmmm might do the cheeseboard and a couple of bottles of wine or something see if DP remembers the bride drinking at the grooms 30th earlier thisyear

A really neat gift my manager gave her friend (or was it her brother??), anyway it was 5 bottles of wine, all different and they were labelled "1st Anniversary", 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 10th or something like that. Kind of an ongoing pressie.
DH and I were in my Bro and SIL's wedding party and couldn't really afford an expensive pressie as I had offered to pay for my dress, anyway we got them a bottle of "No 1" and I put a nice note on it saying it wasn't to be opened until their 1st Wedding Anniversary.

LOL to the B list

My grandma always told me a wedding present should cost about what you'd have spent for that night out. We generally spend about $100. At our wedding just been most presents/vouchers would have been about that..

We got Towels, (DH says the usual crap) platters, fancy cocktail glasses, jug, toaster, wok, slow cooker, we got a lot of mitre 10mega vouchers/briscoes. DON'T do photo frames. its like a "easy" present that everyone seems to do to bulk up what they've already got you, lol!
