Not too ambitious at all! We went on holiday for four weeks over Christmas with our son who turned four months old while we were on holiday. Cheers everyone. That is rather what I thought but hubbie needed some reassurance as he thinks life is OVER, terrible and unmanageable with a baby and that I am being overoptimistic!

I took Callum to Thailand at 5mo to meet my sister and I remember wishing we'd travelled earlier as it was easier than I imagined but also because he was just starting to need more entertaining but couldn't sit up on his own etc. We went to Bali a month later and it seemed way easier because I knew better what to bring and what to leave behind

We took our 8 week old DD camping for 10 days at Christmas in 2007! If we can survive camping with an 8 week old, you will more than be able to cope with travelling to Sydney with bubs!

We took DS to Sydney when he was 4.5 months old and it wasn't bad at all. He was sick before we went and isn't the type of baby who sleeps anywhere and through anything and kinda needs a routine but he coped so well!

I reckon earlier would work better.

I would recommend, if booking accommodation, get somewhere with a room that you can put him/her down to sleep and still do other stuff. We had a one bedroom place, so it just meant he could sleep in teh bedroom during the day in dark adn quiet.

But to be honest we didn't hang around the hotel much - he did great sleeping in his stroller when out and about.

DS was formula fed and getting that on planes/around teh place was no hassle. We've been away with H lots! On the two plane trips we took him, the was when he was 12 weeks and then second at 9 months, and I have to say the first was easier by a mile!!! No crying on flights, no entertaining required, sleeps on planes, in cars, taxis (we took a capsule) and in his buggy while out at cafes etc. He has always been a pretty good sleeper though and has had no reflux.

I just made sure I had a good baby carrier, a large baby bag, and packed in advance and let the hotel know we'll need a porta cot.

Seriously, the younger they are the easier they are to do stuff with (this is with the benefit of hindsight - at the time simple things used to freak me out!). Am I being too ambitious to be planning a week in Sydney with a three month old? I rather hope (I am 24 weeks) that he will be portable, still being breast fed and not at the "bored" stage...we love travel and I hoped that it would give us a little treat to look forward to after the initial confusion of our first baby.
