I'd probably only take kids to Thailand if there was a beach/resort type holiday involved so I could chill out for at least some of the trip. Bangkok is a busy dirty city but there are some good sights and cheap shopping and everyone will love your kids and make a huge fuss over them.

I would not go with two children under three. It is 12 hours to Bangkok and in my opinion that would be a nightmare. My 2.5 year old has been on planes about four times but never on a trip over 4 hours, and that is long enough if things aren't going well! I personally would leave them with their Grandparents (or similar) and go with my DH (we left our Daughter for 13 nights last year to travel to Brazil/Argentina and I know alot of people couldn't do it, but she was better off at home with her Grandies than being dragged half way around the world with us), but as you are BF'ing I guess as you say that is not an option. Bangkok is great!  Easy to get around, cheap, FABULOUS markets etc.  I say take the plunge and go, although I completely understand how daunting it must be with 2 kids.

I would go, what the hell, it is an adventure, you have support there, go have fun, millions of people travel with kids & it may be hard at times but not worth missing out on.

After much discussion, it looks like we are going! We will do 5 nights in Bangkok, then 3 in pattaya (beach yay!) which is where some of dh's cousins partners family lives and they are heading (they will be in thailand for 3 weeks I think). Its only an hour or so from Bangkok on a bus. And a friend of mine may be keen to come now too (help with the kids, and a shopping partner if we leave the boys with the kids!). She will ahve her own room and do her own thing some of the time, but an extra pair of hands while travelling will be great.

DH isn't keen to leave us for that long (Jake really misses him! and dh misses us), and I really want a say in the business stuff as I'm involved too .... so we are just going to suck it up and make the most of it!

We are going to California hopefully next year and will be over there for a month so we can see everything especially it is going to cost us a small fortune we want to make it worth our while.

If you can extend your trip and maybe get away somewhere else for a few days at the end I would definitely go!!

You can get a private car from Bangkok to Hua Hin/Cha Am (beach!) area, it's a couple of hours drive but if you got your hotel (at either end really) to sort it you would get a nice car and might be easier than doing another return plane trip?

Just spoke to a friend who is very high up in marketing and done alot of business consulting, and she pointed out something I hadn't even thought of. As the "business" side of it affects me too, as its a joint thing, then maybe it would be a good idea to be there so I can see whats happening / have my say etc, if I could tolerate it.

We have been to thailand before, so I know what I'm in for in bangkok ... but there is a chance of going somewhere else if I really wanted to go, for a few days anyway.

My SIL is getting married in Phuket in April & we've decided that just DH will go on his own. We umm'ed & ahh'ed about it for a while but decided against it for the same reasons you pointed out in your original post. We'd probably be confined to the hotel room a fair bit for sleeps etc & I'm not sure how I'd feel about leaving them with a babysitter we didn't know.

I have already told DH I'm going to Melbourne, on my own, when I've finished BF'ing . If you will not get the chance to get out of Bangkok then I would not go. I love Thailand, have been many times and cannot wait to go back with DD, but if I had that opportunity and I was not going to be out of Bangkok I would not go. I have spent some time in Bangkok and I was going a bit bonkers after just 3 days and thats with no commitments to anything else, just relaxing and seeing the sights, there is nothing child friendly its very hot and quite dirty and smelly. Having travelled a long way with a wee one not sure i'd do it for a short break

The bonus of Thailand is that even the babsitters are cheap and you can use the hotel ones so perfectly safe... at least you might get a couple of nights out with DH.

Ok, I haven't spoken to any friends about this, and I'm a little unsure if I'm making the right decision - but thought I'd ask in here what you guys would do .....

DH is going to thailand in a few months for 5-7days with his cousin and his thai fiancee to set up some business stuff. They will be working for a few hours most days. I have decided not to go and take the kids, as I think it will be such a mission to travel 10+hrs on a plane and deal with the time difference, and be left in a hotel room while kids nap, try to find food Jake will eat, deal with them waking at some un-Godly hour then turn around and get back on a plane. And not go anywhere but bangkok. Not to mention the cost (with a child and an infant plus me its about 2 extra adult fares, and a bigger hotel room as I'd want a 2bdrm place because of the kids) etc etc ....

But am I mad not to go? Would you go just cos there would be great shopping and we have the chance to go, and would spend a bit of time doing fun stuff? Dh would work while they nap in the arvo, and I may get a day to shop and time for a facial.

I don't want to leave them with anyone so young for that long (still BFing anyway).
