We pick hum up and take him outside to watch the stars. We may be there for 20 minutes or so, then bring him in for a drink, cuddle and back to bed.

We find that taking him outside completely takes him away from where he had the terror and distracts him, and the cool air helps too.

Isn't it heartbreaking seeing them so petrified. I'd never understood it till it happened.

I dont know the cause of the nightmares, which sometimes upsets me too as they sound so real to her, thankfully they are less frequent now.
My DD that is 6 has never had this problem, fingers crossed miss 10 months wont either, or we will need an even bigger bed!

    Author: FreeSpirit
Subject: 31903
Posted: 25 February 2010 at 1:50pm

Ok, I was getting to the stage of "she should sleep through now" but something has gone horribly wrong - night terrors.

I'm not talking about her waking and crying, this is waking up SCREAMING "Go AWAY!!! Don't! Don't don't don't GO AWAY!" And she won't resettle in her cot after these nightmares, not even with me in the cot too (don't judge, it was one of those willing to try anything to get some sleep moments). So now I just pick her up and bring her into my bed, she calms down eventually and goes to sleep with me - I've tried waiting until she is settled but awake and returning her to the cot but she's not having a bar of that.

I geuss I'm interested to know if there are other children having this sort of horrifying lucid nightmares, and how you cope with them?
