Thanks for your advice everyone!! Yeah I have fixed slats and its never happened but its happened to a few friends. I put a flattened cardboard box down and it hasn't happened.

She has set it off once dunno how but she was right upwithout her tummy on the cot and another time same thing but I think thats because the second sensor pad wasn't connected not sure. Either that or its because she didn't move her feet?

Hiya. Our cot has slats and it's been fine. The other thing that can send them off is the uneven surface if you have slats on the cot. Just a thought. I've got one and it gives me peace of mind when baby's sleeping. Especially when she was newborn and I was an anxious new mum! Mine has never gone off unless I've picked her up and forgotten to switch it off. You can adjust the sensitivity level on the monitor if it keeps going off for no reason to make it more/less sensitive to movement.

Ok my mum saw it on special at a baby shop but can't remember what one - she's going to phone around lol.

They're great. I used one for 18 months with my son and am now using it for my daughter. Definately reccommend getting one for movement, mine went off three times with DS2 (didnt have it for DS1), that was enough to be really glad to have it for him!!

I found mine, (and it may have only been mine though) to be hopeless with sound though, it had a light buzz the entire time, so it if you are planning on having it for sound while your sleeping maybe it would pay to check that it doesnt buzzzzzzzz, unless you really like sleepiing with a bee by your ear!!!

I like the look of the newer ones too with a temperature thing.

These are great. We had ours bought for us by my MIL when my daughter was born and honestly it saved her life on at least 3 occasions. The scariest was when she had pulled blanket down off the railing of the cot and was trying to smother herself with it at about 7 months old. It totally freaks me out to think of what would have happened if we didn't have it!
It also used to go off all the time right up until she was nearly 2. You would not believe how fast you can get out of bed in the middle of the night!

I love my monitor have it on even though she's in the cot right next to our bed. Only thing is angel care monitors are known for interference with sound. I don't use mine for sound though I recently got a tommee tippee one with a nightlight on trade me so use that for sound and angel care for movement. we are definately getting one (where did you see it so cheap Nic?). I have a friend who has one, last summer when her boy was 5m it went off. They checked on him, and he was fine. It did it again that night, checked on him again, and he was fine. It did it once the next night (and bubs was fine) they took it back to the shop saying something must be wrong with it as it keeps going off but bubs was fine, they couldnt find anything wrong with it so sent it off for testing, which it came back fine, nothing wrong. So they called the manufacturer who said well the alarm goes off if bubs stops breathing, most of the time when this happens its cos bub has gone into such a deep sleep that they forget to breath so the alarm wakes them up enough for their bodies to kick start breathing again (and if not then the parents are there by now seeing why its gone off) so it means it did its job.
Gave them a hell of a fright to think of it like that, so we are definitely getting one (just saving up the $ first)
So just a normal sound monitor wouldnt have done anything... I agree, we bought one second hand cheaply off a friend - including her babies its now onto it's 4th bubba and still going strong!

Hey Nicky, I have one too and it is definitely good for peace of mind! We didn't use it obviously when Lexie was in the room with us but now she is in her own room it is great, I would recommend putting a note nearby though to tell you to switch off the sensor, Otherwise as soon as you pick bub up the monitor has a short delay and then the alarm goes off. I personally love mine. It gives me one less thing to worry about during the night knowing that if something happened I would be alerted straight away. Without it I think I would be one of those mothers that would be constantly in checking my baby to make sure he was alright.    I still go in and check but I think that's more to do with wanting to stare at my little boy peacefully sleeping!!

It's a peace of mind thing for me I guess. I haven't got one, but am also interested in hearing others opinions. We have some friends that rave about them and have used one for all four of their babies, price is definitely a bit ouchy though.

Angel Care sound and movement monitor

My mum has given me some money to get this monitor, she's seen it advertised cheaper than what it's advertised for in the above link ($400, ouch...)

Anyway just wondering what everyone's opinion is on movement monitors? From what I understand they detect the child's breathing and therefore only go off if bubs stops breathing - that seems like a pretty handy thing to have right?

I guess my other question is, for those that have one, did you like it? or would just a sound monitor have been fine?
