TBH It was happening for ages but not at every sleep and wasn't bunching while he was asleep so I felt safe knowing that he was awake and would eventually cry any way (plus I'd always listen to him talking to himself and the moment it sounded muffled, I'd go in).

Anyway, I had to buy a safety sleep because he'd roll all over the cot and not settle without the wrap. Once I had the safety sleep, we did one arm out for a week and then took away the wrap altogether and it's worked a treat. I think it took him a day or so to get used to having one arm out but I did it on the weekend when DH was home.

Good luck - I hope it goes as smoothly for you.

    Author: myfullhouse
Subject: 31056
Posted: 20 January 2010 at 7:51am

OK I know that there are already threads on this, gosh I have even offered advice but this time it is a little different.

Ben was wrapped from birth but we weaned at probably 3/4mths as I had had enough plus he was side sleeping in a wedge and it was a pain. I then started noticing that he was only having 3x30min naps a day which wasn't long enough. At about 4.5/5mths I started wrapping again and he went back to having great naps

A few weeks ago I checked him before going to bed and he had moved down the cot, was on his side with legs thru the bars and the wrap bunched around his neck! I weaned cold turkey that night and he didn't wake more than nomal. The next day I wrapped with one arm out and he wouldn't self settle (not a major but annoying) and would only sleep 30-45min each nap so I went back to wrapping again and naps improved.

Last night I found him twice with his wrap bunched around his neck! I was going to try again in Feb as we are away next week but looks like I have to make changes sooner . Makes it harder as I am not in the right frame of mind to make changes, I am tired (well that is a constant ) and with this heat I have little paitence plus Ben is teething!

So what do I do? Cold turkey or slow weaning (one arm out, then the next)? And will his naps improve and how long will it take?

Oh and sorry for the rant!

ETA: oh and are they ever ready to be weaned from the wrap or do you have to "make" them? I never had any problems getting rid of Jack's

Edited by Linzy
