I think you will find most kids go through this stage & thats what it is. Trist when he couldnt get his fathers attention by calling Daddy he would say Paaauuuulll we would of course correct him but also had a little giggle as its real cute. Now he calls him daddy hes never called me by mine but he has called me hun or babe as thats what DH calls me. At least he doesnt call him the old man or lady as thats what DH's family call their parents just in an affectionate way..

Yep Hazel calls her Daddy Jess so everytime she would say his name we would say no, Dad. So now she calls him dess lol until she hears me say Jess in which case she goes back to saying Jess as well. we just ignore it now.

hehe.. my name is officially now Mummy, and Matts name is officially Daddy. We call each other that in front of Thomas as he started to call Matt by his name :P I've become my mother ><

yeah i have talked to my 8 year old about calling him dad even if its just when shes around our youngest but she has a problem with calling him that as her dad has past away so makes things tricky but i am doing whats been said so far and is helping although shes still saying his name i think this may just be a phase its stressing me out!

I always just use Dad in front of E and DH uses Mum and I dont think Ethan even realises we have other names...lol.. but yeah i second freckle's advice..

Don't know if this helps but I grew up with my grandparents and my mum. I call my grandparents mum and dad and my mum by her first name to be like everyone else, they never corrected me so I never stopped.

I agree with what everyone else has said though just keep correcting her and perhaps don't respond unless she says dad. Also try get your 8yr old to refer to him as dad to her as well...

Dh, gets 'Muk', at first I thought she was just saying Mum but then there became a clear difference between the two and she was very good at letting us know when we got it wrong. I thought I may have happened because the names are fairly similiar.

thanks its greatly appreciated the advice you all have given, i was getting so worried didnt really know how to take this new phase on board as this has not happen to me before, everytime she says his name is when ever we say daddy she will say zo cause thats what we call him and it is such an easy name to say she has said daddy 2 or 3 times in the past week i hope she stops saying his name as soon as possible i will keep doing as what yous have said and see how we go fingers crossed :)

My 18 month old will try and yell out DH's name inseatd of dada aswell sometimes, and its just because he hears me call it out all the time.
But we always refer to Dh and daddy or dada and me and mama or mummy.

So when she says his name just keep correcting her, she will eventually start calling him daddy again Toddlers go through funny little phases all the time.

Both of My girls learnt to say DH's name before they would call him Daddy. Even now its about 50/50 with the youngest and the oldest only uses our first name if we don't notice her asking for Mum or Dad.
DH used to really hate it, especially being so young it made him look like he wasn't even their father. With our girls its a phase that comes and goes, we always try to correct them but we don't let it bother us too much.

I think it's a phase they go through. Alia would call us by our first names. We'd correct her & they grow out of it. Now she calls me Mum or Mummy & says to other adults my real name so they know who her Mum is.

I agree with Freckle. Jack has started calling DH by his name sometimes, mainly just after he has heard me use it. We always tell him "I'm Daddy", I have tried saying Daddy to DH rather then his name and we have also tried not responding. All seem to have worked pretty well and he doesn't often ay it anymore.

I know it is hard but try not to worry about it too much, as Freckle said just try using Daddy as much as you can and as many of you as you can.

my near two year old tries out both DF and my names every now and then... some times I even hear her pretending to talk to us on the phone using our names... however, generally she does say mum or dad... I usually just respond by saying "I'm mummy" or something along those lines... also most the time we call each other mum or dad in her presence... my oldest (13 year old from previous relationship) always says daddy to her as well when referring to DF... if lots of modelling the use of "dad" doesn't work then he could try him not responding to her requests when she uses his name, if it doesn't work (i.e. get his attention) she won't keep using it... however, rather than just ignoring her I would respond saying "dad"... If she is always hearing everyone else saying his name it could be very confusing so I would work on all calling him dad to start with try not to stress though she'll get it eventually!

hi all,well over the past week my 18 month old lil girl is calling her daddy by his name? its getting to me and stressing us both out..i have a 8 year old from a previous relationship who calls him by his name and i know i do also everyone around us does to but how do i get her back to saying daddy, she will not say dad or daddy what so ever is there anyone else that has or is experiencing something like this that could maybe help me out or someone got any good ideas i dont know what to do at all!! please help!! anything would be helpful and muchly appreciated :(
