we have a stocking for Ethan that will be in the lounge until we decide it's ok to be at the end of the bed..lol that will be a few years yet i think:) and then other presents under the tree..nothing huge though just a few bigger toys etc..

we always had stocking at end of bed and then presents under the tree...:)

We had both too - a sack on the bedroom door to buy 'Santa' some time in the morning, and main presents under the tree.

Sack pressies were occasionally big (one year my brother and I got fishing rods - we got less as we got older and didn't need presents to keep us out of the parents' room ;) ) but usually a magazine, fruit, lollies, undies (thanks Santa...) and maybe a smaller toy.

We'll be doing the same. Even though Amelie's too small to give a crap, this year she has mini books, some stampers and bubbles in her little stocking. Me & DH both had a pillowcase at the end of the bed which Father Christmas filled with some cheapie toys, summer fruits (remember the ol' days when you couldn't buy stone fruits out of season?) and a few small choccies.

Then pressies from the mum & dad went under the tree - usually 1 per child.

The pillowcase got opened first thing and then the tree ones got opened as a family later in the day.

when i was younger i always put out my santa sack under the tree (was a pillowcase with rainbow brite on it LOL) and i would always get cool stuff in it (all individually wrapped) like bubble mix, a chocolate santa, a toy or book etc. would always go and wake mum and dad up and open it in bed with them lol

then the bigger presents were to be opened later when all the family arrived for christmas lunch. that way i had new stuff to play with and wasnt all "can we open them now? Now? NOW???"

when we were kids we had the Santa stocking at the foot of the bed, so starting this year we will be doing the same thing with Ella (when I was younger I used to wake up in the middle of the night, open my santa presents and then wrap them up again so noone would know that I opened them earlier).

Big presents go under the tree and then smaller presents & lollies, food etc go into the stocking.

We do stockings left at the end of the bed (from Santa) with a small toy, a little book and a couple of lollies. When we were kids we had our stockings, that would have things like $2 shop toys, a wee few lollies, a orange, toothpaste, new tooth brushes and stuff like that in it. We'd also have new socks, undies, and a tshirt and shorts new to wear on xmas day... (so basically a lot of it was stuff we'd need anyways but we got it for xmas day haha)

All our big presents were under the tree from Mum and Dad, and Santa would only leave one present for us under the tree-never a big one. I fill the stocking with junk food and usually 1-2 very small presents then the main presents go under the tree. You can open your stocking presents straight away but have to wait until official present opening time (before or after breakfast) to open the big presents. When I was little one year my mum got a Santa sack & filled it with presents & left it at the end of my bed, I was devastated, so she never did it again, ha ha.

That is why I don't do it for my kids. The presents go under the tree, & sweets & $2 stuff go in the stockings.

I like your guys tradition of stocking at the end of the bed. TBH I had never thought of doing something like that, its cool!

We just have a tree..

As a child we did a large santa sack at the end of the bed (so we could see first thing in the morning that Santa had come) And then under the tree we had presents from mum dad and our siblings.

I think we are trying to do a similar thing here, have the presents from each other under the tree, plus the girls bigger joint present we want to be from us. When we were kids we had both - it was "Santa" who filled our stocking and presents from the family under the tree - our stocking or sack would have one "big" present and lollies and cheap toys ($2 shop type) in it. Under the tree there was always one present from Mum, one from Dad, one from our sibling, and one from the family. One year we woke up to NO stocking - we got a phonecall from Santa to say that the present was too big to fit in the stocking this year so it was in the neighbours shed - so we went for a 2km walk to get it (farm kids). We got bikes that year! I have been pondering this awhile...

do those of you who do large santa stockings/sacks also do presents under the tree? Do you fill the sack/stocking too...

when i was a little girl (almost prehistoric days i know!) we used a sock and it had lollies in it and maybe a small toy...   Nowdays it seems that the socks are getting bigger and evolving into sacks and there seems to be so much excess!

I knew a family one year whose presents took over half the lounge and they also had extra large sacks full of toys....

so if you do a sack do you leave presents under the tree too? Or is the sack/stocking more a sentimantal thing than a holder of presents?
