Aethalia - are you sure about this as when I went to apply for mine I was told that you can only start it from 34 weeks pregnant.

This was taken from the DOL - Maternity leave of 14 continuous weeks may start up to six weeks before the expected date of birth or adoption. If you plan to take maternity leave, you must write to your employer at least three months before your expected date of birth.

Unless MW or DR recommends early leave.

Hiya, Im taking my full 14 weeks before my due date! You are allowed to take as much or a little as you want before the birth- as long as its only 14 weeks. I have to take all of mine before the birth as we moved from Greymouth to Nelson and it was the only way that i could still keep my entitlement through work. If you have any questions give the labour dept a ring (i think) and they can tell you straight up what you can and can't do. It does not matter if baby is late or early as long as you don't go back to work before you receive your last payment, or you will not get it.
You can always ring them up & change if you want...how many babies come on due date? none of mine did.

With my last one I rang them as I had not received a letter from them with the details on it & found they had not received it from my work, I was on mat leave & was going into hospital to be induced. I had kept a copy of the form & faxed it from home & they did it there & then. I think they started it earlier for me also.

Im sure that your aloud to start it anytime in the six weeks before or after bubs its born or due. I am pretty sure it doesnt matter if bubs comes early as you can apply for it after bubs is born and anytime up to returning to work I think. I finished work on a friday, and took 2 weeks AL until my PPL started - Dani arrived on the thursday, so in the middle of my AL - and my PPL started when it should, i didnt inform anyone or anything - the payments just started. my work sent in all the forms and had put the start date as 6th of Jan 2010.

Just unsure if you have to start it before or on babies arrival ?

I went on the website and it didn't mention anything about babie coming early before PPL kick in.

When I had Ashleigh I organised my PPL to start around my due date. Obviously she came alot earlier but the payments still started when I had organised them to start. Hi, I finished work about a month before bubs was due, but had her two weeks early due to medical reasons. I actually wanted to start my payments about six weeks after I had finished work as I had a couple of weeks annual and a pay in the mix - I think on the form it might state a start day and I think your boss has to sign the form on the date you finish. I also submitted my forms a few weeks after she was born. I have finished work but don't offically start PPL till the 6th of Jan 2010 (using annual leave till then)

What I want to know is what if I have baby before 6th jan 2010 - does this effect PPL payments?

Hass anyone had it happened before? Is it a hassle?
