Think thats what my friend's plunket nurse told her , that bit her in the a** , since shes now 4 and still kicking, biting and hitting people

We still get it here, but he gets told off very firmly and we have no started putting him in time out for it. He has enough words and comprehension now to not need to hit.

Interestingly when he was doing it when he was smaller and I asked plunket about what to do - my plunket nurse told me to ignore it, as if I gave him a reaction it would turn it into a game.

Yep Alex started this a couple of months ago but we've mostly managed to stop it with time out now. He hates time out and it only took 3 times going in there that now the threat of it works.

Hitting and biting is a pretty natural thing for kids who don't understand why they can't act on their impulses. They are angry and so want to lash out. Lets face it we have urges to hit people too but have learned to control it.

Although it's natural it's also important for them to learn that it is not acceptable behaviour and that there are consequences for it. Saying that 1 year might be a bit young for this to sink in but kids do learn pretty quick if there are negative associations for things. Depends on the kid. Thomas is a hitter as well. He just started biting me last week, which I nailed on the head by biting him back - he didnt do it again. He gets a stern 'Dont do that to mummy, it hurts!' but then he goes off and hits the dog or crouches down on the floor and bangs his head (weirdo) Its getting less and less, but I know he's only testing me. I dont put up with any of that behaviour. Yup, happening here too (plus biting which bloody well hurts! ). I think as well as the frustration about not being able to communicate well, it's also about starting to push boundaries to see how much they can get away with! Yep Bethany does that, usually when she's overtired, feeling ignored and has a pooey nappy. (Otherwise she'll generally use her words to let us know). LOL Maya we call the girls blankies manky blankies too!

Anyhoo yeah my two are masters at this. Especially Hazel she just gets in a strop sometimes for no reason and likes to hit. Sometimes she just comes up and gives me a good wack completely out of the blue. I have to restrain myself from laughing as I know that doesn't help hehe.

Dd does that too. Usually if you take something off her of tell her off. She gets that deliberate look n her eye and comes after.

I normally grab her hand and say in a MUMMY voice, "you do not hit mummy thats not nice, "

Yes! Lil miss does the exact same thing - last night she woke up and was grizzling and I went in and gave her back her Manky Blanket and she shrieked "nooooo! Want daddy!" and threw it back at me, and quite often when I give her to Willie to say goodnight after her last night feed she'll smack him and push him away.

Is it normal for my almost 1 year old to whack & smack me when she is frustrated, She actually looks at me then goes at me with a big smack to the face . It seems in the last few weeks she does this more and more. I have never smacked her and I am sure she has never witnessed this kind of behaviour.
