Jake still wakes for 1 feed a night, I was hoping when he went on to 3 solids per day he would drop a feed... rocmummy - I think your instincts are telling you something, which you have already mentioned here... which is that if baby wakes, and feeds well, then she is/was hungry. Some babies don't sleep through until after their first year, some do so quite early on, it's all normal. My daughter is 5.5months old. I always thought that one day she would sleep right through.... not yet. I feed her 3-4hlry (and it varies due to sleep patterns etc). She wakes twice during the night, and always has. She is fed well during the day and when she wakes during the night, she feeds well, so i assume she is hungry? So, i am curious as to why she feeds well during the day and still feeds at night? I want to wean her, but she wont back to sleep and her crying increases.

At 15wks, i would be waking 3 hourly and feeding...you may find he is waking because he is hungry.

From memory isn't 3 - 4 hourly about right for that age?

I never let my DS sleep for more than 3 hours at a time during the day, so no longer than 4 hours between feeds - if they dont get enough milk during the day they will wake at night - its still the same now he is 6 months old.

I recently tried to reduce feeds back to 4 a day but he started waking at night - even though he is getting solids. Introduced the 5th bottle again and he sleeps 11 hours a night again.

I wouldn't wake him for feeds either at that age. We have the night waking happening here too which I'm none to impressed about (only started up again a week or two ago).

Basic formula to see if he's getting enough each day:
180 (ml) x (weight in kg) = mls for day
(divide by number of feeds to see how much he needs each feed).

In theory that means that if they get that, they shouldn't be hungry at night. Ava gets her requirement and still wakes which is a complete PITA. Night waking is still very normal at 3 months old, some kids keeps waking right up until they are nearly one.
I wouldnt wake him for feeds, he will wake up if he is hungry/thirsty.

I really don't know the answer as at this age nightwaking can be because of so many factors. However, some say that at this age they need well spaced feeds so they get really good big feeds each time. In saying that, I find that if Ashley has 5 feeds (approx 3 hourly in the day) she wakes at around 3 or 4am. If she has 6 day feeds, she sleeps until around 5 or 6am. This is a loose rule though as it can be variable. DS is 15 weeks and has started waking, hungry, at 1am. I'm not sure he's feeding so well during the day but definitely gets 250mls before bed and at that 1am wake because he has a bottle. Should I be waking him to feed him more during the day, or will that encourage snack feeding therefore meaning he doesn't take a proper feed. After daytime feeds he generally sleeps quite well.
