I've seen those Genie wipes @ countdown too.

Treen with dd she had meconium for about 2 days or so.

Bla Bla, where do you buy Genie Bamboo Wipes from?

I'm using cloth nappies but I too have been told about the black tar like poop from a newborn that can ruin cloth nappies so I will be using disposables to start. However, I thought it was just the first poop so I only have about 4 newborn disposables. It sounds like I'll need more, yes?

Huggies definitely for when Sam was a newborn.   Not sure why, they just seem to fit him better.

When he was older we switched to Homebrand, they are amazing! Yep for sure but even the lady who owns the cloth nappy shop in Milford says disposables are great at the beginning - and my 'full time' cloth mum friends still use disposables for going out and at night.

We occasionally use cloth but as my boy went to day care at 6 months we decided sanity preservation was more important and I have enough to do in the evenings already!

Also - if you don't think cloth is working for you, you might need a different system rather than giving up altogether.

Yeah - that's what I've heard too. Plus apparently their legs are really skinny and lots of people have told us that cloth's don't fit really well for a couple of weeks. I'm only looking for disposables for the first 2-3 weeks for both those reasons but also so me and my boyfriend (complete baby novices) can get used to what we have to do for a little while without adding washing. babybaby - of course you can if you want! (personally I'd use disposables for the 1st week because of the sticky meconium poo I've heard about). We tried heaps and even now keep going back to Huggies although I used Treasures Ultra a couple of times too.
You can use cheaper brands but will be changing your baby more often so for the price Huggies works out about the same I reckon!

Huggies - we tried so many and Huggies were the only ones not to give our girl a sore, rashy bum. Even now, at over 2, she can only wear Huggies or Homebrand - all the others still make her rashy. Homebrand are AMAZING and so CHEAP!! Woolworths Select. Cheaper than Huggies and so far have held in the leaks really well.

I just used whatever was on special week to week. Huggies are nearly always on offer somewhere. You can usually pick up the small packs (ie 30 newborn) for $10 for one of the supermarkets. When there is a good deal on i tend to stock up.

Huggies all the way. I also found with DS taht we would have leakage issues with Treasures, and found babylove newborn to be very small. It is interesting as now he is 61/2 months I have to change him more often with a less expensive nappy than with huggies, so you are not really saving in the long run by buying cheaper nappies. Poo-splosions are amazing - it used to shock me how MUCH poo could come out of somebody so little. I am going through this now, we started with Treasures Ultras, then Pams, then Babylove and have settled on Huggies - I loathe this because they are soooo expensive but they are the only ones that keep the poop in!

I am hoping that once the poo explosions settle down (apparently it happens about now) I can swap back to something a bit cheaper.
