They do look lovely though. I'm a bit torn about the layer between you and bubs - on the one hand I prefer bubs to be right next to me, on the other hand I think it'd be great to be able to take carrier and baby off in one piece and swap them over to DH. IMO it seems you're paying a little bit more for the prettiness factor but like I said I haven't tried it. It does look cosy for wee ones...

I was struggling with a too small front pack and a ring sling which bubs is way to heavy for these days. The Ergo is also manly (DH kept offering to carry her when we went to the beach ) and she loved being on my back looking out. The other day when we were having 'one of those days' I popped her in it, she fell asleep (yay) and I made a cake!

If forward facing is really important to you then a Pikkolo is prob the SSC best designed to allow it.

Although I will add this snippet on front facing:
when baby is facing you, he can look sideways and still see lots of the world, but he can also look up at mom or dad for reassurance, and he can turn away from stimulation. When a baby is forward-facing, you can't see his face to read his expression (ie, if Junior is getting upset), and baby cannot turn away from stimulation (not to mention well-meaning strangers who have boundary issues!). Front-facing carriers also force the baby's spine into an unnatural position, whereas (SSCs) follow the natural curve of baby's spine.

My DH will happily wear C in the Ergo, it's manly enough

The downside is that they can't face forward in the front carry position, but they do the back and hip carry (unlike a Bjorn). ALSO they will last way longer. Most of my friends with Bjorns had to stop using them from around 8 or 9 months as their babies were too heavy to carry with all the weight supported by they poor shoulders!

Arguably because baby is essentially hanging by the crotch it's not that great for their spine, a wrap or SSC (soft structured carrier) are much better.

(That said I'm sure a Bjorn would be ok for short periods and is possibly still better than a buggy? No personal experience though)

Show your DH some of the pics in the baby wearing pics thread in the photo gallery, there are a few men wearning bubs in a wrap!

But if he won't do a wrap then he might like something with bells and whistles (men seem to like buckles!) like an Ergo or Patapum (a Beco is lovely but pricey and not very manly IMO!) or my favourite SSC, a Manduca. Or a mei tai type carrier like a Kozy? (There are some quite manly Kozy prints)

LOL

Please, I'm begging you, don't get a Bjorn - they are really poorly designed in terms of proper support for baby's spinal structure as a whole... the less popular nickname for that style of carrier is a 'crotch dangler" as it cuts in right under bubs spine and puts the bulk of the pressure there, not to mention the weight is also centered on your shoulders which is a real drag.

I would also look at something more like an Ergo / Beco / Patapum or my personal favorite is the Kozy... sadly though the Kozy retailer for NZ is not exhibiting at the P&C show this year but you can buy via <a href=""http://www.aquabub.co.nz"" target="_blank">Aquabub

These sorts of carriers support the babes spine and hips, can also face inwards or outwards on the front, as well as back and hip carry.

I'd highly recommend checking out this particular link from the Slingbabies site: <a href=""http://www.slingbabies.co.nz/Site/Positioning/Correct_Positioning_by_M_liss_Stelzer.ashx"" target="_blank">'Correct Positioning' by M'liss Stelzer

And they're soooo expensive for what they are, I'd much rather get an Ergo or Manduca. Although they don't face out.

The design of it means that baby is supporting all their weight on their pelvis whereas carriers like Anna mentioned spread the weight over baby's thighs, as they're supported from under one knee to the other... iykwim.

I've not tried a Beco but hear loads of good things, and I think you might be able to face out with them???
