I've only got one bub But the last family I worked for before Callum had a 3yr old and 4mo when I started and the kids were going to share a room eventually but at that stage M was in his own room and the baby in a portacot with the parents. Her real cot was in the bedroom already (so M would get used to it and A played in it before bath time too).

They started putting her in the cot for day sleeps if M wasn't in there sleeping himself. Otherwise she was in the portacot in the other room. Because M was older he was only having one nap so it was a bit easier to coordinate from memory.

Thanks for that ladies, I think we're going to have to start it soon as Ava's growing out of her bassinet.

I will set up the portacot in the spare room for day sleeps - thanks for that

my two are not in the same room but a friend has her girl and boy in the same room. Not sure of the going to bed at night routine but during the day when her DD is home (not at kindy) she goes in the bedroom for a rest/quiet time. On those days her DS goes into the portacot in the parents room for his day sleep. On the days when big sis is at kindy he sleeps in their room in his cot.

Seems to work really well for them - they started it when the wee boy was about 4 months (when he grew out of the bassinet) and the children are about the same age as my two, give or take a couple of weeks.

I had great plans to put my two in together but both were hideous sleepers and I didn't want them waking each other. Just for the record neither sleeps through consistently at 2 and 3

However I finally put them in together when Jack had just turned 3 and Caprece must have been about 20 months so they were both in beds. It was when me and their father split so they had other issues going on but I found they settled really well together and Jack doesn't wake Caprece. However when Caprece wakes in the night Jack comes running to me before she is even really awake. I have to stagger their bedtimes (Caprece goes down about half an hour before Jack) or they just play and it takes hours to get them to sleep.

Jack has slept in the lounge for his day sleeps for ages so the day nap thing was never an issue. I think once Ava is sleeping through it would be worth giving it a go. Does Jackson try to climb in the cot or anything? I found my Jack in Capreces cot quite a few times when they weren't even sharing so I would be a bit concerned about that.

For those of you who have both kids in the same room, how did you transition the younger one in?

Jack is in a bed, but still gets up every couple of days to play instead of sleeping (he has to stay in there regardless for 1.5-2 hours which he's usually happy with).

Ava is currently in her bassinet, but she doesn't settle well and we currently have her mobile attached to the spare bed in our study so she gets wheeled in there during the day for naps, as I obviously can't put her in her cot in the same room as Jack yet (or can I? lol)

So... what I want to know is, what age did you put the little one in with your older child? Did you start with night sleeps or day sleeps? What were the teething problems with it? How long until it became 'normal' for #1 to share their room?

I'm not even contemplating putting Ava in with Jack until she's sleeping through til 7/7.30 because I don't want to deal with 2 of them waking up early all the time, but it does need to happen when she outgrows her bassinet otherwise she'll be forever stuck in a portacot, probably in the corner of our study Plus the changetable, nappies, bibs, clothes etc are all in Jack's room so it would be a lot easier to transition them sooner rather than later.
