When H was a newborn, sometimes he'd still be hungry after a feed and make a huge fuss but he'd only need a little bit - maybe 10-20mL. So you could try upping the formula a bit? I'd make up 200mL, and see how much she takes.

As other have suggested, wind or growth spurt could also be the reason. Does she drink the whole bottle at every feed? If not, I'd make sure she nothing is bothering her as wind, dirty nap etc could mean she is not feeding properly. You could also try splitting her feed - so feed, change, then offer the rest of the bottle. If she drinks the whole 150mL, then I'd just offer her more.

7 weeks is far too young for solids, there is a whole heap of research that suggests waiting to 6 months is best.

My baby is 12 weeks on Monday and it still feeding every hour to hour and a half on certain days. I do however do demand feeding which means I feed when he wants too.

I know you have to be careful about the amount of formula you give a baby so dont go over the recommended amount per day according to instructions (I dont really have any experience with formula however).

But a breastfed baby digest milk within an hour and a half which means if the baby is hungry at that time it is hungry and wants food. I was told that no more than 6 feeds in 24 hours and literally laughed at the person looked at my close to 4 year old daughter and said aaah well she is still alive and I fed her when she was hungry.

With the gripe water, make sure you give it to her as per the instructions, Bella only has 2.5mls and maybe only...3 or 4 times a day and only if she is quite windy or hiccupy, but I give her infacol before or after every feed and that helps alot as she often gets colic at night and thats awful.

Um - how did the bubs drink the formula??? Sorry but as said before she is way, way too young. As I said in an earlier post maybe ring Plunket they will be able to help you. Without trying to come across as judgemental (as I realise this is possible via the wonder that is the internet) PLEASE don't try giving your wee babe rice cereal (again) just yet regardless of when you plan to give her other solids - it could do some serious damage to her gut as her digestive system is far too immature at this stage.

Edited to add: Also at her age going 1-2.5 hours between feeds is still perfectly normal, whether formula or breastfed - as others have suggested do try increasing the amount you are giving her at any one time.

Thanks Sheza. Might look at upping the formula.

I'm not going to give solids until ATLEAST 4 months i've decided. But tonight I did try a wee bit of Farex in her formula and didn't seem to do anything, but I mixed with only 100 Mls instead of the normal 150 I've been giving as I thought that would be enough because the Farex thickens it. but obviously not she was on the boob for 20 Mins after that as well!!

Dani, at 7 weeks Caden was drinking nearly 200mls of formula, so i would suggest upping the amount you give her, 150mls might not be enough for her now if she is a hungry bubba.

If your baby is really hungry perhaps talk to plunket or increase formula slightly. Have you thought about taking bubs to an osteopath to make sure things are all o.k. I took Travis to one four times when he was a newborn to sort out his tummy for wind and poo issues and it was great.

I remember my mum telling me wind can make them think they are hungry aswell, I think this is what Bella is doing at the moment, she is always rooting around for my boob like she is hungry and seems to want to feed all the tim,e but she crys and crys like she is in pain, so I have been winding her heaps and giving her infacol and gripe water and that has helped a lot.

If it was me, I wouldn't give her solids yet, in my experience feeding 2 hourly can be quite normal. Yes too young. Is it possible she is crying for some other reason than food? I could possibly be a growth spurt and maybe just run with what she wants for a few days to see if it settles down.
She may just be happy to suck on a dummy between feeds to help her stretch it out.

Yes (she is too young)

ETA -

A human baby’s gut and kidneys are not adequately matured before 4 months so they may not have an ability to fully cope with solids. If you introduce solids before 4 months the baby may be at an increased risk of:

eczema
dehydration
respiratory disease
diarrhea

They dont recommend solids before six months these days.
