We can still carry Rowan in it on the hip or on the back and it will be fantastic for the next baby as you can lean forward and the baby stays secure. Great for interacting with toddlers at the same time.

Cons - takes a few goes to get the hang of it and I had to use the mirror a fair bit to check I wasn't bending Rowan's legs through badly when I was putting her in it.
Plus we got a chocolate brown one so DH would feel a bit more manly (lol) and it is hot in summer.

Elias grew long REALLY quickly, so by the time I got to try a Moby at about 7 weeks, he was too long to do the newborn hold (and was too long to fit lengthways in an ordinary sling)

    Author: AngelG
Subject: 29034
Posted: 28 September 2009 at 10:03pm

Hi, I have a moby wrap, and it was a godsend! Infact, I would say it was my best purchase. My son had colic and hated being put down, and wouldnt sleep. I basically had him attached to me most of the day and some of the night. I had had a c- section, so my stomach muscles were shot and my back therefore weak. Moby wrap is the most comfortable carrier with even weight distribution. My son is now 8 months old, and we still use it, mostly in the hip hold position, although if I go around to a friends place and he wont sleep, I put him on the front, give him a little rub on his bottom and he nods off. Honestly - awesome product. I brought just the standard wrap, $69 from kiwibaby.co.nz, and I got it in a creme colour - perfect for hiding newborns many chuck ups!!!

Oh, and it is tricky at first, but I agree, once you have done it a couple of times - your a pro. Dont let this feature put you off, as it really is simple to do with a little practice.

Edited by AngelG

It was ok for the first 2 weeks or so of her life, but she would wriggle and cry anytime after that when we tried to use it! I suspect it wasn't the Moby specifically though, any type of wrap carrier I think she wouldn't have liked....

    Author: weegee
Subject: 29034
Posted: 28 September 2009 at 9:27pm

Can't rave about them enough. In fact I like them so much I have two (although lilfatty has one of them at the mo)

PROS:

Like all wraps:
*baby is super secure in there and you are completely hands free. (I like a pouch sling too but never felt like I could really use both hands to do stuff.)
*they are super comfy - the load is spread right across your back so you don't get sore shoulders or feel lopsided
*they are really versatile in terms of the different types of carry you can do

Specific to Moby wraps: they are the perfect stretch - you can pop baby in and out multiple times without having to retie it every time like you would a woven wrap, and it doesn't slacken off too much.

CONS:

*There is a little bit of a learning curve but seriously, once you've done it 4 or 5 times you're sweet.

*In the middle of summer they do tend to get a bit hot esp if you have a dark coloured one. My first Moby was a black one and it's good for matching with clothes but I got a Pacific one (my favourite colour) as a bit of a middle ground.

*When you're still getting used to using them you really do need to have a quick squizz in a mirror to make sure bubs is positioned correctly which makes them harder to use when out and about - we've got tinted windows on our car which worked for me

*The length of them means if you're going out somewhere in winter you really need to have it pretied on so you don't accidentally drape the end in a puddle.

I actually found it easier to get JJ positioned right in the Moby than in an ordinary pouch sling, it's really easy to keep their spine straight etc.

Go to the Parent & Child Show at the end of October and check them out in person. Disclaimer - I will be there helping model/sell them. I can't say for sure but I suspect there will be show specials Or, you're in West Auckland, head along to Slingbabies!
