I can attest that it is a phase and they do grow out of it, though at the time it feels like forever

We gave the highchair a wideberth for a while and he ate sitting on the floor. I also only gave him a little bit at a time. Infact even now if I give him his whole dinner in one go he will have one bite of everything and throw it away. Whereas if I pace him he will eat the lot no trouble

Yeah I'm with you bun_in_the_oven.

I've just completed my cert in caring for children and it talks about this phase. Kids often do it with toys and other objects. It's their way of learning cause and effect and also of learning that this will ALWAYS be the result.

I think it is best to ignore it until bub has finished their meal then take bub away and clean it up with them out of sight. If they see you clean it up I think (personal opinion here) that it will become part of the cause and effect for them. So rather than it just being "throw the food and it lands on the floor" it becomes "throw the food, it lands on the floor then mum cleans it up"

"if i throw this what will happen" dont take it personally !!

the phase will pass..

i would just ignore it and leave it on the floor.. you could also try just offering one or two peices at a time

Caden LOVES throwing stuff off his highchair, once he is done with his food he will casually turf it off the side.
I leave it there until he has finished eating. I ignored it. Just left it on the floor until the meal was finished, or it was all on the floor. Then washed her face and hands, picked the food up off the floor and said "Oh well, you didn't like this so I'll feed it to the dog/birds/rubbish bin". Once it was disposed of, I'd get her down from her highchair. What do you do when your child throws food off the high chair? DS does it, just because he can I think. We pick it up, no fuss, a couple of times but then leave it.
