I had this last year but slightly different.

I was sure that I was pregnant although I was having periods. I just started to feel quite bloated down there a lot, had weird movement feelings (like the quickening/fluttery feeling when they first start to move and was having really odd symptoms). I could even pinpoint back to when I thought I would have conceived, and as my step-sister had periods for the first four months of her pregnancy I was convinced that it was happening to me too.

I went to the DR, had a blood test, it was negative, she even did an internal, couldn't feel anything and put the random movements down to overfeeling gas bubbles because of my c-section and low iron.

But I know how you feel, I thought I was going mad.

Now that I am pregnant again, the movements are different than those phantom ones and the symptoms are a lot stronger.

But you never know! I would go and see your DR to put your mind at ease.

Usually - not always, but very very usually - you'd get a positive test if you were that far along with the pregnancy. (ETA - I think? After reading Emmi's response).

I'd go to your Dr, and explain everything to him/her. Don't worry about feeling or looking stupid - it's not a stupid situation at all. If you are preggers, they'll be able to confirm that, and if you're not, that's quite OK. It's easy to be embarrased about the idea of a phantom pregnancy, because we have a bit of a stigma attached to things that are 'in the mind', but in reality, that's silly. It's just something that happens in some situations, and might possibly be more your body's response to expecting to be pregnant than your own mental reaction to it.

One way or the other, going to the Dr again is probably the thing to do. They'll be able to put your mind at ease one way or the other, and trust me, they've seen it all, it won't even faze them.

Edited by Hopes

The only think I can think of was that if you did have a twin, then you would be over 3 months preg (if it was a twin) then you would have negative tests becuase the placenta takes over and your body doesnt do the HCG thing from that point on..
But the fact your HCG levels were tracked down makes this unlikely, leaving me with an I dont know. Which really isnt much help sorry. I would head back to the dr (even if I felt a bit silly) and just be honest and explain whats going on. They should be able to help you get some answers. Although I hope someone else on here can help you answer your questions too. Good luck...

    Author: Buttersmum
Subject: 28243
Posted: 20 August 2009 at 4:58pm

OK so my story is............
I had a miscarriage in April. It was a surprise pregnancy and we dealt with it and are Ok that it happened. I had hcg levels go down, although they never did one to make sure it was 0 and I never had an ultrasound to check it out afterwards which I think is because it was all pretty straightforward so to speak.
I had my AF twice after the miscarriage so carrying on all honky dory then suddenly no AF. Have been using condoms so thought naaa can't be preggers. However start getting symptoms so eventually after being 14 days late and feeling dumb go to my dr who did beta hcg and it was neg and 2 home preg test also neg. OK not pregnant.
But still getting symptoms..........ok feeling crazy by this point. My fiancee and I 2 weeks ago did have one slip up a few days after going to the Dr and forwent the condom in a moment of passion (lol sorry tmi) and well I'm now still getting preg symptoms.
Thing being sometimes I swear I feel movement in my lower abdomen and I'm sure its getting bigger........not necessarily tighter (I'm a slighty bigger girl.......ok probably a little more than slighty but not huge huge huge) which means if I was pregnant it wouldn't be from 2 weeks ago. More preg tests come back neg which could be too early from our accident 2 weeks ago.
I'm too scared to go to my GP again and ask for a scan cause I think she will think I'm nuts.
Question 1 is ..........could I still miraculously be pregnant from when I miscarried with a twin?? ( I know highly unlikely given the hcg went down and now neg preg tests)
Question 2 is ..........how soon should I rely on a home test after our little accident???

Or am I having a phantom pregnancy????? I really do want a baby but was quite happy to wait til after our wedding in Oct before trying so would be mad at my body for putting me through this.
Anyone else had a phantom pregnancy or feel like youre pregnant and youre not?.............I hope I'm not the only crazy one

Thankyou for letting me rant and reading this.

Edited by Buttersmum
