Hmmm, interesting, keep updating with what you decide to do and how you get on, coz Micah sounds just the same with the signs as Sam does.

I personally think he is 'getting ready' for TT but perhaps not quite there yet. Its good that he is in the space of knowing when he has a dirty nappy and following you to the toilet with the commentary is also good because he is learning what happens when.

If it were me (and this is what we did) I would wait for summer. Reason being is that they get around outside a lot more, you can put them in underwear and if they wet out there, oh well. I mean, be prepared for a stack of accidents - I was washing pairs and pairs of undies a day! However, it is about teaching him to go, so asking him every 30 mins once you get into the groove of TT is a good idea. They get annoyed with you but it does get through. And leaving his potty in the lounge is a good idea too.

I think Summer is a great time to do it. And you can drum in with the new baby too that big boys dont wear nappies anymore only babies blah blah blah. we are also very slowly TT Ella and she is a couple of months younger than Sam

about 3 weeks ago we noticed that staight after her having a bath while she was running around her room naked she kept on doing a wee on the carpet (all the dancing around), so we just put a potty in her room and told her if she felt a wee coming to sit on the potty......and now she will do a wee on it every night before bed. Then a week ago we started getting her do a wee before the bath (again just put the potty down and gave her the choice).

 

she is probably ready to start doing more training now, but with me feeling so yucky have decided to wait until I feel better and more able to clean up after her.

 

so, my point is....you could just try leaving the potty in the living room and then every now and asking if he feels like doing a wee. Could also try a reward? we brought a stamp for Ella and whenever she does a wee she gets a stamp, which she loves.

We are potty training here with Elle and really it hasn't been too bad (granted she is slightly older than Sam though). She was going to the potty months ago and using it alot the and then for some reason stopped wanting to use it (to the point of screaming when we tried). So I stopped - like you I didn't want to push her too much to the point where she'd hate the blimmin thing!

If he is showing all the signs - like you say he is, just keep putting him on the potty, we started a sticker chart and when its all full up she is getting a goldfish, so it gives her something to aim for. I also went to the $2 shop and bought all sorts of funky stickers so when she goes she gets to choose what sticker and where to put it.

Honestly putting her in her 'big girl knickers' has been great, she has really only had 2 accidents (we have been going about 5 days now of only being in knickers) one when she pee'd eating tea - she hated it, not so nice when your clothes get wet, and its pretty cold as well. And then last night she went into her room and did a poo in her knickers , should've known as she often takes herself off to poo. She did come back out and do a wee poo on the potty too so I guess thats something.

Today we even had an outing to the park in knickers, we made sure we praised her HEAPS! She is still in cheap pullups for her sleeps.

I say give it a try for a week or so and see how it goes, if Sam isn't too keen on it you can put it off a wee bit longer. Could be easier to TT him now while you're pregnant than with a newborn - either way there will be some messes to clean up .

P.S Forget what his Father is saying - you'll know what Sams needs are more than his and do the best for him

Sam is giving me mixed signals as to whether he is ready to toilet train and I don't really want to push it at all when I have a new baby coming. It might all be a bit much for him I think and I wanted to wait until summer..

He was wetting right through at least 3-4 times a night a few months ago but has only done that once in the last month.

He doesn't tell me if he is going to do poos or wees, and doesn't tell me if he's wet but has started taking his nappy off after poos and getting a clean one and lying down on the floor asking for a clean nappy.

Has been sitting on the potty but hasn't done anything in it yet.

Follows me to the toilet and gives me a running commentary of what I'm doing and then wants to flush for me.

Was waking up with poos most days but has slowed to maybe 2-3 times a week and does them half an hour to an hour after getting up.

I don't want to start too early as my step-sister is TT her young boy who is three months younger and says he is having accidents all over the place and while I know to expect accidents, I really don't want to be cleaning up poos and wees all day and bending over heaps while pregnant doing that.
