I haven't looked into how it affects hormone levels, but could well believe that. I should have been a bit more specific, I was more referring to if implantation had already occurred. Looking at the notes I took at the lecture, the reasoning behind it is that the neocortex neurons (brain cells) do not begin to develop until the 5th week.

Victoria, in my opinion, although alcohol may not affect the embryo, it can affect your hormone levels when TTC.  I read on one of my many googles that it can cause an oestrogen and prolactin excess which makes ovulation or (with prolactin) implantation difficult.  

So who knows what painkillers, drugs etc can do?           ....

wow that's interesting victoria... so that's before the placenta starts functioning I assume? Ouch, sounds painful. At a lecture from a developmental neuropsychologist last week it was mentioned that there is a 4-5 week 'grace period' where alcohol cannot affect the embryo, so I would think it would be similar with pain relief? To be on the safe side though maybe try cutting it down as soon as you feel you can, and if that isn't possible check with your doctor? Haha (sorry not laughing at you) but I am on the same from my surgery!!
From what I can tell.. ibuprofen can reduce the quality of your eggs, and it has been said that it is ok to take it infrequently during preg. Panadol is fine, and the codine Im not sure about.
I am trying to take the minimum amount, just incase. BUt not so much that the pain is unbearable. Its ok atm, the nerve block only came out this morning so is still half numb so no pain yet.
I hope you recover quickly and the TTC process isnt hindered

Hi girls,

Question for all those pro's out there...I am TTC and have put my back out and have been put on codeine, ibuprofen and paracetemol...will taking this be bad if I get pregnant or already am?
