I remember every year for christmas my cousin got one of the Farmers Santa bears , remember when they had Nana bear, and Police bear, and baby bear ?

I just got an email about this. So sorry for taking so long to get back.

I had decided to get a sit to stand giraffe thing, and personallised ornament, santa photo, personalised stocking filled with little bits and pieces. His nana is making a boat/sandpit for outside. But now im thinking i like the idea of the balls and maybe a pop up tent.

There has been some great suggestions on here!!

Does anybody know if Kirkaldes and Stains sp? does personalised ornaments? Im just hoping for his name in a nice design in silver and glitery. One thing my sister made my nephew for his first christmas was a little photo book for him to look at. It has photos of him and her (she is a solo parent), his aunties and uncle and grandparents in it, as well as him doing fun things during the year (sitting on diggers at roadworks, at the beach etc). I think she laminated the photos or something from memory and hold punched it and tied it together. He still loves looking at the photos now, and for ages took it everywhere with him. I heard of a great tradition one family had, that we are definitely going to be implementing. The family got one big "family present" a year for Christmas. So one year they got a big sandpit. Another year, a big trampoline, another year it was a trip overseas. So for me, it really puts whats important about Christmas, family time etc, in the front of the kids minds. Its not, "what did I get this year" competitions with the cousins.

What about a wooden block trolley that bubs can push around? Almost walking by 9 months. Wooden trolleys last forever as well.

Elle's Favourite present for her 1st Christmas was a fisher price activity table - she even still plays with it now and I managed to get it 1/2 price. Otherwise a pop up tent is a great present - all kids love them. And wooden blocks as someone else suggested or a wooden hammer and peg set.

Its hard aye noodle, i kind of feel bad as well about Brennans first xmas. I was so drugged up i dont remember much of it. So this year it feels more like his 'first' xmas.

Ariannesmum, we have the same santa lap tradition. good when they are small, but when they get to about 1, 2 or 3, mine developed this huge irrational fear of santa which meant anytime we got near him they either screamed, or yell "STAY AWAY FROM ME!"{

I love the christmas ornament tradition, I bought one last year for DS he was due the 22nd and thought i would have it incase he was here which he arrived on the 19th so he was. so he has his first one so will be adding another one to it this year I am a bit gutted tho that we didn't get him his 1st santa photo but at the time it would of been a mission, had a cs and got out of hospital in the afternoon of the 23rd and no way i was gona attempt the mall after labour emergency cs and with a new born baby on christmas eve lol but now i wish i did it.....oh well there is this year

I am loving the idea of a Christmas ornament, sandpit and little pool. I think I will be getting Arianne those along with some stuff in a stocking. I can't wait for our first Christmas as a family.

I love Christmas too, in fact our wedding was in December and my favours were Christmas baubles! Anyway, my parents let us choose our own Christmas decorations every year (or bought for us when we were too young!) and when we all left home we took those decorations with us to start us off our own family Christmas trees. It's such a fantastic idea and I will always cherish them!

Jack's first Xmas (almost 1) he got (and this is from everyone, not from us - we only spend $50 in total. Oh, added bday pressies in there too!):

-Playskool walker thing (converts walker to ride-on)
-Blow up ball pit/paddling pool with 50 balls
-Push along musical toy (loves it)
-Mega Bloks and Mega Bloks truck
-Togs
-Sippy cup (for big boys to get him off the bottle
)
-Drum kit (miniature - blame the MIL)
-Wooden puzzles
-Musical toys
-Clamshell sandpit and sandpit toys
-Motorised quad bike (again blame the MIL)
-Books
-Camp chair
-Sleeping bag
That's all I can remember anyway. DS got a beach set, towel, small paddling pool, togs and wee camping chair in his stocking as was going to need all that anyway....I think we got the whole lot for about $50 all up.

Have no idea what presents we're going to buy but we are going to be starting a Christmas album. Each year it'll have a photo taken of Harper at some point on Christmas day and then some notes like 'my favourite present was...', 'I woke up at...', 'for christmas breakfast/dinner we had...'

The 2 best toys we bought DS1 for his 1st xmas was,

A bead frame, it was big & has a mirror on the bottom, it cost approx $100 & is still going strong 8yrs later, has been all the kids fav & still is played with.

The other was a play table (like this one & TM Listing #: 234509124 ). We always said this was our best buy.

One thing we bought DS3 was a Peek and Play Playdome. (like this one on TM Listing #: 234239425 )

kiwibaby.co.nz - 100pc set - $39 but am unsure of postage.

Aithne - we didn't get DD2 much for xmas at all - she was 11 months. We were away camping so just got some beach toys, wee blow up pool, and few bits and pieces... with my oldest I went crazy buying xmas and bday pressies from the start but they are happy with the simplest things at that age so it's really not necessary... Umm, I buy DS a christmas decoration every year as his special thing to keep. Just a thought.

He then gets a stocking which has "essentials" in it that I would have to buy for him anyway e.g clothes, a couple of cheap toys etc.

I have NO idea what to buy my DS for Xmas. He will be 9months then. This is obv his first Christmas and i would really like to make it special for him.

I dont want to be one of those mums who overload their kids with plastic toys, as he probably wouldnt know what to do with most of them.

Im not a big reader so thought it would be a bit pointless getting books as they would probably sit on his shelf with his other books.

He has heaps of clothes and i buy them anytime so didnt think it would be special enough for his first Xmas.

I know he wont care now but i want to make a big effort every Xmas for him cos i never really had Xmas's myself.

I also dont have a lot of money so it would have to be something i can lay-by.
