When #2 goes forward facing it won't matter.

The reason why the drivers side is the least safe position (other than front seat with an airbag) is because you're more likely to get hit on the drivers side in a T accident - the driver trying to save themselves has little to do with it because the issue is usually another car hitting you, not you hitting another car if that makes sense.

Yeah cuppatea we have a European-style one as well, no way could it go in the middle with a base or anything. I'm sure a carseat would move around in the middle more than on the sides if you had slight bucket seats on either side too? (Like most cars do now).

Then I thought "Does this mean I value his life more than Tom's?" So you cant win. If you have a capsule, it might be easier if you need to put it down etc to be on the passengers side so you can put it down beside the car while you faff around with other things.

In saying that. I often have to make Tom wait beside me while I put James in so the footpath side for James is better then. but we have a 4WD so Tom cant get in easily by himself....well he can but then he tries to climb through to the drivers seat and we have a tanty cos I wont let him drive.
