I'm going to try hold off for as long as possible too, Amby. A cousin of mine has a bub 2 weeks older than Ashy, and they have turned to front facing already.. i'm definately not in a hurry to turn! Oh and how bad is this, when I landed in the UK my dad had a carseat set up in the backseat and I was exhausted so put him in and strapped it all ok thinking nothing of it, then we got back to his house, luckily only 20 mins away and i was looking at how to take the whole seat out as Finley had passed out and my clueless father said oh it just lifts out, so we travelled the whole way and he wasn't strapped in at all, its a wonder my brother and I survived, my dad just assumed that was all you did.



Haha, my parents scare me too, I had never fitted a convertable seat so asked mum and dad to get it organised for me BEFORE we arrive in Perth. So we get there, exhausted, it's pouring with rain and blowing a gail. There is my sister's car with a carseat just chucked on the back seat. DH was ropable. We sorta worked it out, but it certainly didn't feel safe. There was nothing we could do though.
My parents said back in their day they used to just bung us babies in those cocoons and lie us on the back seat. After a few trips they learnt that when they braked hard, baby rolled onto the floor. So from then on we were put on the floor for car trips.

Thanks for all the replies ladies, I will definatly hold out for as long as poss before turning Jody's seat. Apparently there have been studies done that indicate a high percentage of children under 4 in crashes would have survived if still in a rear facing seat as they offer better spinal protection.

I turned Kaelen around to front facing at 10.5 months, because he HATED facing the back seat and would cry all the time. He was so much happier after i turned him around. He was around 11kg then and really tall. We are in the UK at the mo and all babies seem to be front facing - its weird.

Anyway because of that so is Finley, he is about 11kg though and oh my god is such a much happy traveller, I will keep him backwards facing at home until a year I think but I would be tempted to turn him round for long journeys the difference is huge for him.

at the moment the law is 6mths or 9kgs, whichever comes first, but they recommend that you leave them rear facing until they are 12mths or 12kgs whichever comes first.

When do you go from rear to front facing? I thought it was like a year old or more? I asked Jody's nurse today and she said I could do it now as Jody sits well and is over 8kg.
