My mum took me to the paed monthly and he said the same thing every month.. I was growing (albeit slowly), I was happy and was healthy! His thoughts were as long as I was healthy what was the point of force feeding me. One day I apparently went into the kitchen and got a banana, took it to Mum and asked her to peel it. I have eaten fine ever since (if not a little too much).

The recipes look pretty good and I like the attitude - he'll eat what he needs when he needs it sounds to be the underlying philosophy, might have to whip up some nuggets or fritters and give those a try.. I have six corgette plants ready to fruit like crazy and DH wont have a bar of them so its up to Hayden and I to munch down on them!!!

We don't give chunky vege.. by that I mean the vege that he will eat very happily are peas/carrots/corn mixed vege. And he will happily go through and pick out what ones he wants to eat which is fine by me and for potato we do wedges instead - he especially likes the crispy wedges by watties. And those are good. Or anything I put in pasta bake seems to go down well but only if its cut up into small pieces

ETA: don't stress too much about it. I was an anti meat and anti vege kid. I'm still a vego but the more my parents forced the issue the more stubborn I got about it. I lived on potato and bread for most of my childhood

Edited by kebakat

Even the BLWers go through picky stages!

There are lots of recipes etc on the Baby Led Weaning forum You may need to cheat and make muffins, nuggets, etc for a while. Texture does seem to be really important to JJ, veges need to be really well cooked (mushier than I personally like them) and he's not a fan of anything boiled, roasted veges seem to be his favourite. He also loves pizza so I've done some sneaky pizza toppings, and once when I accidentally overcooked some pumpkin it got mashed and spread on a cruskit and that got gobbled up too.

JJ went through a phase of licking off toppings (got a very dirty nose!) but it passed

    Author: kiwikid
Subject: 27482
Posted: 15 July 2009 at 8:30am

I always thought Hayden would get the hang of vegetables but it just isnt happening, he is great with most finger food, is okay with very lumpy puree's (not great tho) and will eat vegies in those kinds of meals but if I put an actual piece of brocolli/cauli/sweet potato/eggplant/carrot etc etc in front of him he licks it a bit and then spits it out / biffs it over the side of highchair.

He used to like peas but now will have a couple and then biff they go.

He will eat cherry tomatoes (halved) and spit the skins out, avocado is popular , most fruit is fine and I give him bits of potato every now and again and he likes that. But any other real vegetable he turns his nose up at. Also he licks the spread off sandwiches but never actually eats the bread.

Its my fault as I probably didnt give him real bits of veg in the early days often enough, only a few times a week probably, mostly cos he just played with them so I stuck with the puree stuff he would actually eat and let the real stuff slip by the wayside.

I'm definately signing up for BLW for any future babies!!!

Any tips on how I can get him actually consuming real vegies as I would quite like to get him eating the same evening meals as us but that seems a long way off.
