Author: Shelt
Subject: 27296
Posted: 26 April 2010 at 8:33pm

Tehe this thread always makes me laugh!

There are so many embarassing moments but one that really sticks out is after they gave me a choc/sugar tablet (I'd had dinner at 4.30pm - stupid hospital dinner lady - and it was about 3am and I was weak with hunger) I had a contraction and sucked down on the gas without thinking. I started foaming at the mouth and yelling out "Ive got rabies" at the top of my lungs, then breaking out into fits of giggles.

Then part way through I was determined to turn over and kneel on the bed. I was hooked up to all sorts of monitors and it took them ages and ages to move everything so I could kneel over the back of the bed (the back of the bed was up and I wanted to kneel over the back). As soon as I turned over and kneeled I realised I was really uncomfortable and wanted to turn back again. I feel really bad coz it took them ages to move everything for me.

And near the end of pushing (which took nearly 2 hours) my midwife kept saying one last push and I kept saying I can't do it, can't you just vaccum the baby out (I meant vontouse).

I love this thread no matter how many times I read it...

Tys birth fully sucked with not much funny bits since it dragged out for a week but I do remember the gas lol I kept giggling like a maniac but I was trying not to be a dick so I kept saying 'sorry sorry I'm not altogether with it' in my very best 'I'm not stoned I'm totally fine' voice while my head was flopping every which way coz I couldn't keep the blasted thing straight then I'd lean forward real close to DP and in a stage-whisper tell him that the gas felt sooooo goooooood before taking another big huff and giggling it out lol... Oh yeah and I was in the bath and was sure I could feel my sarong slipping down my butt and was telling DP and my best mate to pull it up but they were saying it was fine so I started yelling at them that my butt was hanging out then crying saying 'my dignitys going my dignitys going' in actual fact my sarong had slipped slightly so you could just barely see the top of my butt (even less than when you lean over in lowcut jeans y'know?) so they were right and I was wrong but they were very patient and tugged it up to calm me down Oooh yeah and we were doing acupressure and I'd feel a contraction coming and start yelling 'back back back' (wanted them to do the pressure points on my back) then as soon as anyone touched me I be tryna hit them and tryna get them to stop but since it was in the middle of a contraction it was pretty ineffective and they wouldn't always stop so when the contraction eased I'd start yelling at them for not stopping then realise another contraction was coming and start yelling at them to press my back again lol poor DP I'm suprised that after all that hes open to TTC #3!!!

TG no pooing here but I did get hysterical about needing to pee while I was in the bath but coz my contractions were so strong and close together I couldn't get myself out in time so wee'd in the water. After I wee'd I kept saying oh no oh no I had an accident and apologising and saying how gross it all was...

Edited by Babe

    Author: luvmylittlies
Subject: 27296
Posted: 25 April 2010 at 5:25pm

I remember feeling like i needed to have a poo as i was being wheeled into theatre for my emergency c-section. I though I''d be all proper (no idea why) so said "I need to get up and go to the toilet" they told me no, it's fine, so again trying to be a bit polite "i need to use my bowels". Again they said no it's fine. So i kept getting less and less subtle..."i really need to have a poo", "i need to have a crap", ï'm telling you i'm going to crap on your table","fine, you'll have to clean it up then". For the record I didn't crap on the table.

I was also terrified of feeling them cutting me so I kept telling them I could feel the ice even when i couldn't. I think they worked that out pretty fast when i was saying i could feel it even when they weren't touching me.

Not a birth embarrassment, but soon after....Because Kiara was 6 weeks early she was tube fed for a while so i had to express 3 hourly. I was walking back from the room with the fridge to store the milk and some hospital visitor gave me a huge smile. I was all happy because I thought it was because i looked so good so soon after having baby in my lovely new stylish dressing gown, but when I got back to my room I realised that in my tired, drugged up state I'd walked out of my room with my boob out.

(as she is a pretty staunch homebirth MW, into natural birth/drug-free labour etc). They cracked up laughing and she apologised - she said it was just to take my mind off the stinging sensation when she administered the local anaesthetic ....I thought "phew, thank god for that!"

But even more embarrassingly, just before she started stitching I felt the uncontrollable urge to fart. So I warned my MW, and the backup MW giggled and said "You shouldn't have told her, that would be more funny". Then my MW said "Don't worry, one of my clients in Aussie farted at least 10 times while I was stitching her" ..... and yep, you guessed it - I proceeded to fart at least that many times myself! . I kept warning them, and every time the backup would say "STOP warning her" then we'd all giggle, more so each time, which obviously wasn't the best when attempting to lie still as there was important surgery underway .

I remember pushing hell for leather thinking to myself "im SO not having a c-section" thinking i was running out of time but i only pushed for 9 mins lol

Number 2 was a fast labour! I remember not wanting to call the MW as I had been in false labour for a week but when it got to 5 mins apart she was like ok see you at the birthing centre in an hour. We only lived 10 mins away so I stayed at home longer, next minute my friend turned up to take Tristen & realised my contractions had gone to 30secs apart & i wanted to push. Both DH & her struggled to get me down the stairs but I remember her calling back the MW to say they had gone to 30 secs & the MW was like why havnet you left? lol The next thing im getting into the back seat of the car & was wondering what was taking DH so long.. he hd run back up the stairs for the capsule I yelled at him what the F** do you need that for? the kid aint coming home tonight get rid of it" then all the way in to the birthing centre we argued as I wanted to push & he said like hell are you going to get the back seat dirty & im like I dont fn care & hes like you cant push your waters havent broken & im like too bloody right i can. Mind you he took the corners so fast that I had to lock the backdoor as I was certain I was going to fall out! lol we stopped at the traffic lights & im screaming at him dont fn stop hes like I have to their cars.. then we arrived at the birthing unit & I could hear the birthing pool filling & said I wanted to get in the nurse said i had to wait for the MW i said FFS!! I went loo then MW turned up took one look at me & said get her in the pool, I couldnt get my clothes off fast enough! then during transition i kept saying to her "can i have an epi now?" shes like no your too far gone then I would go oooooowwwww then can i go home now ive had enough I wanna sleep so shes like sure if you can get out & im like I cant please help ooowwwwww! as the next contraction came this went on for a while between going home & the epi she then offered me the gas to which i said too bloody late for that im having this kid. She then rung the backup MW & said "yep shes getting ready to push oh the baby is here" & hung up DH was standing there like a stunned mullet apparently as the next thing the MW said was "right I will get bubs out of the water"... he thought i would be going on for ages as DS1 labour had been 14 hrs this one 1 hr 40 mins teehee

After I was all jabbed and lying back down I got the mega shivers because I was FREEZING cold. However since I had read that the epi makes you shiver I didn't tell the mw I was freezing. Luckily DH touched my hand and told everyone I was so cold. My blood pressure dropped heaps and they covered me with blankets and tipped the bed up so my head was lower than my heart.
I then asked the mw in a shivering gas-induced slur "Am I ok?" thinking I was dying. She misheard me and said "the baby's fine". Thanks everyone for sharing :)

OK 7 pages later I'll post my 2 cents.

First embarrassment was that I was 13 days overdue and every time my MW came to see me I was always apologising for being late. I mean, not like it was my fault for being overdue but I felt so embarrassed, especially since after my birth my MW was going on holiday.

On the day I was due for induction, my appointment was at 9am, I woke up at 4am and was in full labour. I was having this contraction and I was banging on the walls to get my DH back into the bedroom to rub my back, he was in the kitchen making breakfast and couldn't hear me - we live in a row of flats and the wall I was banging on was directly on the other side of our neighbours'.God knows what they were thinking!

My DH was having peanut butter on toast and coffee for breakfast and I was yelling at him telling him to get away coz the smell was making me feel real sick xx(] - poor guy and then I'd yell at him to get back and rub my back. I was having double contractions and wanted to eat something but ended up being real sick sicker than I've ever been and I was so embarrassed.

When my lovely midwife came to my house I demanded an epidural - even tho I swore I'd have a natural birth all thru the pregnancy, and then spent the rest of labour shivering and couldn't stop it was so weird! I look back now and feel real embarrassed about that, especially since I'd been watching the TV program "From Here To Maternity" and it showed some chick who had had an epidural and she was shivering and I was laughing my ass of at her saying that'll never happen to me.

When we arrived at the hospital I got out of the car and this security guard came up to me with a wheelchair and asked if I'd like to sit in it, and I said no, then started having a contraction... he kept asking me over and over again trying to get me to sit in this bloody wheelchair and I ended up yelling real loud at him and swearing "no I don't want the f***ing wheelchair!!!) it was a real painful contraction and I wasn't breathing properly coz of this guy, but man I feel so sorry for him.

I have some more embarrassing moments but gotta go to the vid store.

Keep em coming! Its such a laugh! x[

Edited by seasson

I fought for hours to avoid the epi because I knew vontousse meant a episiotomy. In the end I allowed the midwife to call an anesthetist to come put an epi in. He arrived in a beige safari suit complete with hat. Dunno why he was dressed like that, but yeah. When he was giving me the local I threatened him with grievous bodily harm because it hurt!

I ended up pushing for over an hour with nothing happening. The midwife finally called an ob down to examine me. She did an internal and said baby was in brow presentation and I needed a c/s. The midwife remarked that she'd been doing internals and what she'd thought was the fontanel was actually an eye. I went nuts at the midwife thinking she'd blinded my baby by sticking her finger in it.

Then they moved me to theatre and did the c/s. When it was all done they moved me off the operating bed and back onto the stretcher thingy to go to recovery they discovered someone's cell phone under me. Turns out it was Mr Safari suit's. Lucky it hadn't rung during surgery.

Oh and about 3 days after birth I lost it because I'd run out of toilet paper and didn't have anyone able to bring me anymore.

Now I am not sure how I would react if some woman grabbed my boob and gave it a squeeze.

I remembered another embarrassing moment. They were getting ready to give me the epidural and informed me it was of the same family as morphine. I started panicing because morphine makes me seriously vomit. I kept telling the student mw that they had to give the same drug they give to patients having chemo to stop me vomiting as the other sh*t doesnt work. The embarrassing bit is I kept referring to them as anti semetics! She kept correcting me and after about the 10th time I looked up at her and said, OMG I dont have anything against jewish people!"

I mean the words are very similar.

Still embarrassed about that one, what must she have thought of me????

Baby-having can get so messy.

Casper, 'ring of fire' is indeed an understatement!! I remember someone telling me years ago that if you want to know what childbirth feels like you can put a finger in each cheek and pull your lips open as hard as you possably can. At the time I thought "ew, whatever, your lips would actually rip!" I thought it must have just been something women said to make men feel sorry for us. But nope, it's the perfect explaination.
After I had Jody's head out and had that big long gap between contractions, which seemed to go on forever. My mw told me I was breathing too fast, I was complety unaware that I was hyperventilating. She kept telling me to RELAX. Ha!! If I could have spoken at the time that is when the mw abuse would have arrived. Luckily DH remembered to tell me to breath through my nose.
Also, I know I wouldn't have been able to get Jody out if the mw hadn't told me to "get angry at the pain!"

Lol at the student mw in crocs. Mmmm, squelchy...

She filled the seringe faster than i did and i was just so tired. The next time i had two midwives doing it lol. Henry had a tongue tie and couldnt latch properly but i didnt want him given formula so this was the way. At the time it wasnt weird at all.

Nothing that funny about my birth. I was real quiet - no drugs.

But i was straight into hospital when my waters broke at 36wks well that is after waiting two hours before letting my midwife know. For some reason i was calm and didnt see the rush to let her know or go to hospital. They put a drip with antibiotics into me and when that was done iwas like right sweet 'can i go home now'. They looked at me like i was crazy. And the dr said hun, you're in labour you arent going home till you've had a baby. And i was like well i feel nothing so i might as well go home. Seemed logical at the time but a bit silly now. I didnt get to go home sadly.

Edited by angel4

I'm surprised after seeing that he came anywhere near me for us to end up with 2nd child. (the sink was in the room not in the shower/toilet cubicle bit by the way).

This is a bit strange but I thought it was normal at the time, but after having Spencer it got to when one of his feeds was due and he wasn't interested so the mw just grabbed my boob and expressed some off into a syringe to feed him. He was born at 10:59.

When I was having issues pushing Daniel out all these people piled into the room including the ob and I looked at her and asked how the hell she was going to help me when she was all banged up (she had a black eye and arm in a sling - some biking accident or something).

Not so much embarassing but when I had my episotomy mw got the student mw to do it and then she said oh thats not big enough and I was absolutely mortified. I was absolutely scared about getting an episitomy to begin with let alone them having to have 2 goes at it. And I remember telling her I was scared about it and she asked me if I was scared to push him out and I told her not to be so stupid
