Author: ItchyFeet
Subject: 27233
Posted: 29 June 2009 at 8:06pm

I always thought we'd just keep trying every month until we got a result, but the Auckland FA clinic advised me that it was better to wait until the second cycle because your body is still full of hormones. We decided that was the best approach because I didn't want to feel that I'd "wasted" an embryo if it didn't work if we flew in the face of medical advice. Also, if it didn't work, I thought I might blame myself for ignoring the advice as well.
I have to say that after the initial disappointment, I've enjoyed the opportunity to drink alcohol, save another month's money towards the obstetrician we want, live normally without being in an IVF cycle or actually pregnant, not feel that it's ruling my life and spend time with my DH. It's given me a bit more time to get over the disappointment of one failed embryo transfer (which hit me far harder that I expected, and I've struggled with coping at times, whereas I found IVF itself a breeze). I should add that I have noticed the after effects of the ongoing hormones during the first months cycle which has been different to usual, so it has confirmed to us that it was better to wait.
