Yes she does definetly enjoy her readily available milk supply from mum.   Thank you for your reassuring advice, wasnt sure if i was being somewhat relaxed about length of sleeping and feeding times.

Hi rocmummy! Welcome and congratulations on your wee one

Yeah, pretty much that is what you should expect with her, and yes she probably will start to get into a routine one way or another. Do keep in mind that she will go through growth spurts where she may want to feed alot more.. this can last anywhere between 1-3days.. I haven't noticed Nova going through one but I think its cause I'm constantly shoving boobie in her mouth

Just go with the flow like you're doing, you may find she spends a week or so in the same sort of routine then totally throws that out the window - just what babies do - they're here to keep us on our toes

My wee girl is 11 days old and yes she is preciously my first child
Its reassuring to read the previous postings to see that their sleeping patterns do become routine and timely. At the moment she has the grizzels in the morning and late evenings, these may last from 30mins to 2hrs. She can sleep up to 3hrs - 4hrs. Generally a good feeder - BF baby.

Im told that this is normal to expect this from a newborn? Im not worried and just go with the flow of it all. . Can anyone confirm this?

Think of her bath as playtime and at 4 weeks sometimes she may not want to play. Jake often fed and changed and fell straight back to sleep.

She plays, talks with us (well you get what I mean ). She feeds for a bit, then plays some more, I read books to her etc.. I always have her with me, sometimes wrapped in the Moby where she naps. If she gets really grizzly then I wrap her up and time for bed, but I never put her in bed if she isn't looking tired as such.. In essence I don't kinda keep track of the time and worry too much.. We bath or shower her every night between 6-7pm then bed between 7-7.30pm.

At this stage with your DD being so young I'd just suggest you keep doing what you're doing.. If things start to go a bit haywire then perhaps think about implementing some sort of routine that works for you guys.

My main piece of advice is to just chill, go with the flow.. You've obviously got a content baby, she'll soon be interacting with you more and its totally worth the wait! Listen to yourself and what you think is right - she is your babe and you do know whats best for her.. Remember that every baby is different, they are not all the same. From what i've been told by my Plunket nurse, MW and GP, babies tend to get themselves into some sort of routine by 4-5months, so don't stress if things seem to go up in the air for a while... Just when we thought things were going awesome, DD would completely change it on us! lol Its just what babies do.. When you say sometimes your bub is awake for 45mins or 3 hours etc.. what is she doing? is she jusy lying awake in her wee bed or do you have her with you etc... ?

I know Im probably sounding like a obsessed nutter, but am trying to get my head around if Im doing the right thing.

Am finding it tricky to fit her bath into a sleep, feed, nappy, play time before she goes into the over tied stage. have to work fast aye!!

Jake is nearly 12 weeks and can be awake anywhere from 45mins to 2 hours. It really depends on how tired he is.

Your girl is still only little and while she is sleeping she is busy growing!!! Dont wish it away, Jake was like that until about 5 weeks then he decided sleep was for wimps and started sleeping on average 7 hours per 24!

I do watch the time, but am watching her for the tired signs really. Man they can go from good to overtired quickly!!! I had a battle on my hands a couple of days ago with that, but I won and she won too, as she did get off to sleep ok in the end.

My DS is now nearly 13 weeks old, he sleeps through the night at the moment and is normally on a 3hr feeding routine during the day, oh and he is exclusively breastfed. It's only been in the last maybe 4 weeks (I think) that he's been staying up longer than an hour during the day.
