Weird for me too, although I did have 2 hours of full on contractions before I got the epi. I wanted to make sure I was past 3cms before I took the drugs!

EDD very much an estimate. Only 4% of babies arrive on their EDD. Sheza and I would be evidence that big babies come late - I was 15 days late - 9lb 4; Caden was 11 days and 9lb 3ish, from memory.

It's quite weird reading this thread - I don't relate to any of it as my birth was all medically managed - some pre-labour pains while being induced but once labour started, the epi was in. I should just say my whole labour wasn't 2 hours. It took 9 hours to get to 4 cms, then once at 10cm I spent 2 hours pushing so was nearly 14 hours all up. I just had an extremely fast transitional stage, which is good cos at one stage I was looking like a repeat c/s for failure to progress!!!

Yes the due date is just an estimate, there seems no reason why some go early or late, size of baby doesn't seem to mean anything either, some little ones turn up early and some go two weeks over due and have massive babies. Anything between 37-42 weeks is considered normal with 40 weeks being the average.

I think its the luck of the draw, Daniel came a week early and he wasn't a big bubba, just average at 7lb 12oz.

I don't know if the lead up means you get a faster labour though. My labour was 10hrs start to finish.

I felt quite off leading up to it. Only a teeny bit of nausea but mostly the other end lol. I didn't throw up in labour at least not with Daniel. Ooohh I like the sound of that!  Although it sounds painful too. Gulp.I'm still getting that 'huge baby pushing on my cervix' feeling...oowwee  actually it feels like shes punching my bladder with her little fists...or grabbing it and pulling on it. and also I'm still feeling nauseous...does this pass? I have my mother on standby as she's gonna be at the birth..but she is a good 1.5 hour drive away so I don't want to call her over a false alarm but also don't want to leave it too late IYKWIM?!

Is the due date really just an estimation then? Is it quite common for biggish babies to come a little early cos they're 'ready' sooner or is it just luck of the draw?

My mw said all the false labour usually means a quicker real labour as things have had lots of practice. I went from 4-10cm in less than 2 hours, so it could be true.

Yeah I had that a few times, got my friend ready to take Spencer twice over false alarms, in the end she just left the portacot up lol!!!

Oh and I went for a massive walk the day I was due in the blistering January heat. All I did was knacker myself out. Real labour started at 4 days over due whilst I was blobbing out on the sofa watching Oprah.

totally agree!!! I had pre labour for a week or so - often it started at night unfortunately... and during the day I tried to walk up hills lots and lots to get things moving... anyway by the time I went into proper labour I was shattered from all my walking and if ya end up having a long labour like I did (hope ya don't ) you'll need ya energy... So nap if ya can if they're keeping ya up at night!!

Pre labour does provide a good opportunity to practise dealing with the pain... How exciting though it means you're so close to meeting ya wee bubba!!! all the very best!

I know its extremely frustrating**hugs**, I was in fits of tears and rage by the end of it all, and just wanted him out, nearly 4 weeks of that crap was making me go crazy lol Hopefully its not too much longer for you, but the best thing is to try and relax a bit and not stress, and walk lots to get things moving

Woohoo chickie things are happening I had contractions for 3 days before my waters broke (with a pop and a gush - no doubt bout what it was!!!) then an 18 hour labour. It can be pretty intense but I totally second the walks and distractions already posted.
My big tip - get as much sleep as you can!! I ended up hitting my mw up for a sleeping pill the night before my waters broke - slept so great and I think it really helped me cope with the whole labour.
If you're all wet maybe its your hindwaters? LOL I just spoke to my mw actually and she said it's pre labour, real contractions but yep they could go on for a while or start agan soon and lead to the real thing. So aaarggh. These weren't BH- they DID hurt and yes I was reconsidering my wish for baby to get out of me haha.

So I will just have to wait and maybe go for a long walk like my mw said lol. It's so frustrating isn't it? I have uni on Thursday and it would be nice to know if I'm gonna be there cos my lecturer has kindly offered to tape the lectures for me if I can't get it. Pre-Labour hun

It can go on for days or weeks, mine went on for weeks, about 2 weeks before Caden was due, and the 10 days I was over due.
It's basicly your uterus and baby getting ready for labour. I know it really sucks, and you are probably really over being pregnant now, but like skyflame said, bubs will come when she is ready.

My best advice would be to just try and put it out of your mind, busy yourself with other things, this is what i had to do in the end, I sat here all day and made bebo skins in photoshop and pottered round the house, went out for big walks and all that to keep my mind off it all.
So many times i thought I was in labour, but it was just Caden getting ready. I had a looonngggg latent phase and it was hard work, every night I would have contractions, just dull crampy ones, and then by the morning, nothing!

But! When I went into labour I sure as hell knew it, the contractions HURT like a **** and you can really tell the difference between them and BH ones(well most people can lol).

I have just had a friend go through a week of this kind of thing. I would guess your body is getting itself ready and may still have some stops and starts.

I know it is hard to wait and can be frustrating, but she will come when she is ready.

A cut and paste from my post in the May thread this morning...hopefully some of you lovely enlightened ladies can tell me WTF is going on?! 

Well I thought for sure last night I had started labour....been having STRONG BH all day yesterday, bubba felt heaps lower etc , then around midnight it felt like she was headbutting my cervix (OW) for ages and got really wriggly...then the low down period type pains started...not nice. And regularly too. Def contractions. Without a doubt, they were lots more painful than BH. But then after an hour or so they stopped! WTF??  They were regular pains, and much lower than normal, certainly made me squirm and reconsider having a baby haha IYKWIM!

So I am none the wiser here. Haven't lost mucus plug (that I know of...I often go to the loo in the dark though lol) and although I still feel pretty wet 'down there', apparently it's not my waters (although Dr's couldn't confirm that for sure).

Any ideas????
