yeah i think the reason i never really swaddled b/c it was too darn hot and he'd be all sweaty if I had.

Thanks for all the responses guys! Tried leaving an arm out and that was a disaster because she too loves sucking on her hand so wouldnt go to sleep. Ditto with cold turkey too. Saffron, will try wrapping her the way you suggested tomorrow and see how that goes. I think you can wrap for as long as it works! Once baby starts rolling/moving around cot, then wrapping can become a hazard. We had to transition Tyde when he started escaping the wrap all night and his sleep deteriorated majorly (went from sleeping all night to waking 6/7times!!) We tried the techniques - loosen wrap for naps first, try wrapping just one arm etc.. but he just didn't transition well. We put him in the Peke Moe and it worked immediately. Hayden had one arm out from about 12 weeks, at 16 weeks approx we tried to go cold turkey and was total disaster so went back to one arm out and then tried again at 6mths with the second arm out and it wasnt an issue so the next sleep I left the swaddle off altogether and it was fine. We didn't stop wrapping Dom until he was almost a year old, he loved it though. Issy we only wrap very loosely as she likes to be able to have some arm movement. She was just like Kaelina she would wake herself up trying to get her hands out. Try wraping her loosely from the front to back. So a muslin square folded in a little triangle at the top, placed high on chest and shoulders, then pick her up and pull on side diagonally down over her back and one straight across. You have to do one side diagonally and one straight so it can't be pulled up around her neck. This way of wrapping allows them to suck their hands with out allowing their arms to wack them when they have a moro reflex.

I never really use to swaddle him (just a tight wrap and even left his arms free!)...perhaps that would've given me longer times between feedings. Oh well, now he hates it since I've tried swaddling him...he wants his hands free so he can suck on them! hehe..so cute. I just tried swaddling him tonight, popped him in his basinette and then left..heard him crying a little bit (as if in a struggle) and found out that he stopped once his arms were free. I suppose the best way is just to ease out of it. best of luck!

I stopped wrapping DD at about 2.5 months but then went back to it as the sleeping just got worse. Then I tried again at approx 3.5 months for day sleeps at first (cold turkey) and then with one arm out for night sleeps, but just using the safety sleep to keep the other arm down. Have now gone to both arms out at night and she is actually sleeping better.

We keep trying one arm out every now and then and he just will not settle.

But I havent heard of many teens needing wrapping so I am not going to worry about it

I think overall there are two schools of though, cold turkey or one arm at a time along with introducing a sleeping bag. We did one arm during day sleeps first (it was about 14 weeks I think) and then after about a week did it at night as well. He was out of the wrap by 18 weeks and just in a safety sleep, which hes still in.

Jackson is still being wrapped! He just can't handle having his arms free... it's too entertaining. He sleeps much better fully swaddled.

we were like LF - Astin was wrapped for ages!!!! until 9 months i think it was!!

we had tried to unwrap him but he didnt like it! and was taking ages to settle back down!! cant remember why we stopped but we too just went cold turkey and he was fine!!!

You might want to wrap her so that she can get her hands to her mouth (but at 2 months old, I would probably keep her wrapped as they havent outgrown the startle reflex at that age.)

Hi all, am wondering when people stopped wrapping their babies at night and how you did it (did you go 'cold turkey' or somehow ease baby into it???). Kaelin is waking herself (and me) up at night having little tantrums trying to get her hands out so am guessing this is a sign i need to stop wrapping her.
Also did it change baby's sleeping patterns at all? Am worried we're going to go back to waking up a couple of times a night
