I used disposable breast pads for the first week or so while I was using nipple cream as I suspect it could clog up the fabric on cloth breast pads just like it would cloth nappies, and that could affect absorbency.

Jules, I've been using a mixture of pocket nappies, AIOs and fitted nappies with covers. The following is my own opinion only & is based on a 9lb newborn:

Honeychild pockets (SM) - great fit & plenty of room for extra absorbency, plus quick-drying.


Monkeydoodlez AIOs (SM) - really trim nappy & super-easy to get a good fit. Not the most absorbent nappy though so for a really heavy-wetter or longer stretches I'd reocmmend a doubler.


Berry Plush AIO (SM) - gorgeous fabrics & absorbent insert but slightly fiddly and quite bulky on a tiny baby.

Itti Bitti Boo fitted (SM) - really absorbent, fast-drying snap-in inserts & lovely bamboo velour fabric.

Swaddlebees Organic Velour fitted (NB) - gorgeous teeny-tiny nappies with snap-down front for umbilical stump. Perfect for small newborns but only fitted 2wks on my 9lb born baby.


Kissaluv sherpa fitted (NB) - lovely soft & stretchy nappies that still fit my 4.8kg baby well.


Motherease Rikki cover (XS & SM) - fantastic soft & stretchy PUL cover with velcro closure. Fits nicely over all the nappies I have & really reliable.


Bummis/Real Nappies covers (XS & SM) - good reliable PUL covers.


Swaddlebees fleece covers (SM) - lovely soft fleece cover that fits perfectly over the Swaddlebees newborn nappies.

Thanks Rachel! I'm LOVING the tiny cloth nappies!! They are so cute & soft and really no trouble at all. I'm also surprised by how much I love fitted nappies (always thought of myself as more of a pockets/AIO girl). Motherease Rikki covers rock!!! Karyn(MI) has started selling them and they're bombproof!

I was debating wether to go the cloth route this time as i found the disposables really uncomfortable last time. I love my cloth breastpads too, they save me soo much money. I used disposable breast pads for the first 10 days after Max was born so that I could use cream on my nipples (ouch!) but since then I've been using cloth breast pads and I love them!! I really wasn't sure they would be so good but I'm so glad I got them. I have a mixture of Little Cloth Kiwis bamboo velour, Ecomoon flannel & hemp and some Foxybots minky & microfibre. They're all just as good as each other to be honest, even the fleece-backed pair that I got free from LCK!
