I don't know whether to post this or not but I figure I will just so you can make sure that you are fully informed and that the doctors make sure it heals properly without complications.

I am deaf in my left ear from having a perforated ear drum as a small child. It was a freak occurance, and in most cases they heal without incident, but mine caused an abundance of scar tissue and skin to grow my mastoid cavity destroying the small bones in the cavity which transmit sound allowing you to hear. I have an empty mastoid cavity and an eardrum rebuilt with muscle from my neck.

I don't imagine that anything like this will happen but you did ask if there was a chance of any complications so I thought I'd let you know the brief laymans version of my story.

Just make sure you go to the follow up appointment and keep an eye on her for any signs of hearing loss. Oh, poor Brenna!
My BIL did this recently too and then went swimming before it had healed, got an ear infection He was in a lot of pain and it took just over a week to heal.

Oh my gosh    Poor wee Brenna and poor mummy too!! I haven't heard about such a young child having a perforated ear drum but I know a few adults who have and it has healed up fine. I feel so guilty because today Brenna perforated her eardrum with a cotton bud (she was off playing and got into my stuff!)

The doc didn't seem worried but I was kind of shocked at how much damage she'd done (was bleeding) so didn't ask anything.

Is there any chance of this kind of injury effecting her hearing or causing any other complications in the future? (more prone to getting a burst ear drum if infected?)

The doc wants to see her in another week, but I feel so guilty that I was wondering if anyone here knows?
