We have the toddler behind the drivers seat, we get the baby out first the the toddler and then lock the drivers door(no remote) that way toddler is out for the shortest time.

I prefer the baby on the left side of the vehicle because it takes longer to load them in/out of the car. In saying that, it means I will often carry the toddler to the other side for strapping in. our bolt is on the left so still have Dominic there and Isobelle's capsual on the right. I quite like it that way because I can grab Isobelle and place her safely on the footpath/grass and then get Dominic out. I think it is more dangerous to have the toddler in the path of the traffic because they can be unpredictable.
