I think the idea is for Jackson NOT to have to work so hard. It sounds like this teat makes it really easy. He has never had a good suck (I have been saying that forever, so it makes sense this is as a result of the high palate), and this teat talks about poor suckers as well as the high palate.

From my chat with the doctor, she said his tongue could be getting tired as the day goes on, hence why the volume drops and drops and drops.

Frustrating thing is that I have always said it feels like Jackson was chewing my breast rather than sucking... I wish the LC had some idea about the palates right back at the beginning.

I think there is another teat that is shaped differently again, and as you mentioned can be used for cleft palate etc. I bought mine from here but i see too that breastmates sell them too.

i think the chu chu teat for palate issues actually has a flat side to it, so is slightly different from the one i have tried. linky for that type of teat.

They re a super fantastic teat to use on a child you choose to mix feed as they have to work them like a breast, which means the milk dosen't just "arrive" like in a normal teat, so they have to use the tounge, palete etc. I found thej very, very good, and cannot reccomend them enough although they can be hard to get.

Jackson has a high palate, and though I haven't yet seen the speech therapist, someone did tell me about these.

"This teat has been developed for infants with feeding difficulties including cleft palate, high palate, downs syndrome or Pierre Robin syndrome. The Easy Feed Teat is also helpful for infants with a low sucking response.

The top flat part of the teat behaves as a pseudo palate. The bottom part of the teat has been made extremely soft. This will enable the infant to drink by just applying slight tongue pressure to the lower part, causing the cross cut to open."
