Not sure what it's like in Gisborne but we recently decided to try to get Neosha in here and were told we would be lucky as there is a 2 year waiting list So it's never too early to get names down, a friend had her daughter down from birth after having trouble getting her son in when she enrolled at 8 months.

They are brilliant, I love how structured it is! I mean I went in to have a look and there were pre-schoolers sorting plastic animals into mammals, reptiles and so on. It's all about learning and a friends kids had such a great start to school knowing all the basics and having already settled into a structured learning centre so school wasn't a shock. A niece and nephew both went to montesorri and one of Michaela's friends goes to one too and I love the way they're structured and very focussed on encouraging independence as Kebakat mentioned (although it freaked me out a wee bit when my friend mentioned that the children take turns cutting up the fruit for morning tea, yes it's supervised but I'm still not ready for my little girl to be weilding a sharp knife lol). 

If it wasn't for this baby on the way Michaela would have probably been sent to the montesorri down the road.  Unfortunately despite the 20 free hours childcare montesorri is far from free and with us going down to one income I wasn't able to justify the cost when the local kindy is very good anyway and anything that they lack we can make up for at home.

My MIL (who works for ERO) quite likes them for preschool. She and I were talking about this the other day cause we have one just down the road from us and we were discussing options for Daniel. She said she likes that they teach them indepedence which sounds cool but they are a much more structured style than like kindy apparently.
