She is starting to think she has made a rod for her own back as he now gets sh*tty if they haven't left the house by 9.30am - and she is due with #2 in 2mths!

There is a temptation to go to all the fun offerings but you have to remember that it is on top of all the other things you do in a week as well (shopping etc). I try to do fun things at home with him as well, we sing and dance, draw and have exploration time in the garden together. By the end of the week we are exhausted!
Having said that I really think that by 18mths they really need some peer interaction and thrive on having some time outside of the home. 18mths is when I started Dominic at playcentre and he just took off and is florishing. We have been doing mainly music since he was 6mths old and he loves that too.

Then we started playgroup and the free library thingy when she was just over a year I think. She coped well with 3 activities a week. And most were in the mornings, so she always slept well once we got home!

It doesn't have to be boring though. If he seems to get bored, do an activity together or grab some kids' books from your local library. You can make being at home really fun.

I'm the opposite. I don't go to playgroup or anything apart from swimming lessons. I really should though so the little man can socialise but being at home doesn't mean boring!

We found with about 3 days out of the house it was too much. We go out everyday, but only have 1 scheduled thing a week and then coffee group every fortnight. That way if he's sick, teething or just generally unhappy we don't feel like we're wasting our money by not going.

It also depends on what sort of activities you want to do and how they fit into your day. Swimming and active music and movement classes can be pretty tiring, as is playgroup but sometimes that's a great thing because then you get a wee rest while they're snoozing!

My wee boy is a very active lad and loves getting out doing things but is also happy mucking around at home. I just don't want him to get too "bored" being home all the time!
