For some reason (a few months ago) Jessie seemed to just give her bottle up herself. For a few nights she was only drinking around half of it (and I thought she just wasn't hungry) and then she just said "No, no" after that and didn't want it at all.

Hubby was quite miserable about it as it was the only time that she really sat still for a cuddle now that she is so active

I was worried that she wouldn't be full enough to sleep properly, so I've started giving her a yoghurt after her bath instead.

We still do bottle (or cup) of milk before bed. I tend to warm it slightly at night just to take the edge off it. Levi adores his bottles and still asks for it. It means that he is getting enough calcium etc and we only give him two milk drinks a day - the rest of the time he drinks water. I dont think it is a problem and would be happy to continue it for as long as possible. We do dinner, bottle, bath, brush teeth drink of water and then stories and bedtime. I found that keeping the drink of milk (either in cup or bottle) as distant from bedtime means they don't develop a food/sleep association. thats a good idea about giving milk in a cup before the bath and then a bit afterwards- might make the the transition a bit easier and might also help with weaning her (if I her give her a cup before bath and b/f after). She does tend to drink a lot of milk just before bed (despite eating a big dinner- she has now got her appetite back), so will see how it goes.

I was thinking too about the night toilet training...but I guess that it is a still a wee while off.

We still give a bottle before bath time. I bf until 12mos with my first two, so it just all got weaned at the same time. What I noticed was that they would eat dinner and then actually be really tired. When I bf I noticed it was more about comfort suckling than filling up, so at weaning time I just tucked them in at that point and let them sort themselves out. I tried the milk in a cup before the bath, then bottle afterwards at first ..... it made absolutely no difference to how much he drank from the bottle --- so he was having a 150-200ml cup plus about 300ml bottle!!! That really tested the huggies! haha. Ella may not be such a guts tho.

Good point re night toilet training ... Unless Jack stops himself he will probably continue to have a cup of milk before bed until we try and have him in knickers at night. While he is still in a nappy it doesn't matter if he needs to go during the night.

In regards to weaning you could try giving some milk before the bath (or whenever you want your child to have the milk) and then the rest at bedtime. Leaaah still has one, its the only bottle she has and hardly eats anything with calcium in it. Plunket wasn't concerned that she was still having it. She only has about 180mls though.

PS - should also add - Jake was VERY attached to his bot bots so I thought he wouldn't like it .... but it really didn't bother him - he was used to a cup during the day already. The first night he looked a little confused, but after that was fine. Have the same issue.... Luke loves his bottle after bath and just before bed usually while listening to stories. But nappy leaks......

I'm going for his plunket check tomorrow so will ask them for tips of how to wean bed time bottle!!! Or if i should!

Hopefully she has a clue!

Since changing Jake to cups not bottles, we have moved the cup of milk to before the bath now. It has meant he drinks about 200mls max, not the 300mls odd he was having in a bottle, so the nap is not quite so full in the monring. I think we will keep doing it this way for quite a while, as he is still meant to have 2 cups of milk a day, and he still has quite an early dinner. I'm not sure if they need less milk over 2 .... but if so we may drop it then, assuming he will be having dinner later by then (but maybe not, I quite like doing his dinner early and ours later at the mo, and will want him to have dinner at the same time as no 2 when it arrives).

Not sure about the nap -- Jakes used to leak quite a bit and he still didn't wake most of the time ... definitely not if it didn't leak ... and it was sooooo full in the morning when he was having big bottles still. Maybe the heat or something is waking her?

at what age did you stop giving your toddler/preschooler milk just before bed? Ella currently has her bath, b/f, brush her teeth and then bed.... but I am looking at wearning her shortly and was wondering whether I should replace the b/f just before bed with a cup of milk or try and give her the milk before her bath (which I don't think she would be that happy with).

I don't have a problem with her still having milk just before bed, but often she wakes up in the middle of the night and her nappy is VERY full, so was wondering if that could be waking her up and making her uncomfortable????
