Duh! I've always said I have a 28 day cycle even though AF comes on day 28!

Me too! Doesn't normally happen for me either. From a bit of reading I have done, it appears that CD1 is the first day that you have red blood flow, enough to use a pad/tampon, the spotting/discharge days don't count. To me day one of AF is the first day where there is flow enough to need a pad/tampon and is red flow.
