I live way down in Timaru and I am yet to even find someone on this whole website from here lol so don't think I will be able to start my own like you guys. Your lucky you live in a big city.

Hey Lilfatty we were in exactly the same position as you once. My hubby is from the UK also and didn't have any mates here and struggled to make them. I was the first of all my friends to have bubs and I felt very alone and a bit jealous as they all headed off over seas and also had loads of money to spend on themselves. But it does get easier, we were friendless for about 3years and found it very hard, but once our friends started having bubs they were back for advice and someone to talk to, also once our eldest started kindy I made lots of new friends who were in the same situation as me, you just have to be a bit forward and introduce yourself and askk them round for a playdate and cuppa. Hang in there it will get easier.

Cheltenham beach does have a mini playground at the northern end (not Nth Head end, the other) with a slide, few swings and see saws.. also a shower for sandy feet and any swimmers

I vote the first picture .. its prettier (and I know nothing about the Shore, so I have no idea where it is)

I personally cant do Sunday .. but we can always just miss that meet up and come to the subsequent one (which knowing my luck will be in Drury)

So for the second meetup here's Cheltenham Beach:

The best place to meet here would probably be the beach end of
Balmain Reserve:

Or, there's Narrow Neck (the beach isn't as nice and it's busier, but there's more parking and a closer shop):

If we decide that's better I guess the trees next to the playground are probably the best bet, we can just crowd out anybody that's already there:

Personally I'd vote Cheltenham (along with Flissty's DH!) - parking may be more of a mission on those little back streets, but it also means we're not right next to a main-ish road (for the benefit of those with more mobile children!), and we'd be fenced away from the street we would be near.

Was there any objection to making it Sunday the 1st of Feb instead of Saturday the 31st, as Mum2Ella requested? Either day is fine for us.

ETA Cheltenham doesn't have a playground AFAIK if that's an important decision making point...?

I have made a thread in the meetup section for the first coffee group meetup and have added scottise, manz, sunnyhoney & Neeks to the list.

I will also make a thread for the second meetup out on the Shore .. maybe I will need weegee to work her magic for a meetup point there.

And I suppose I should make a thread for participants, future venues so that we have a "master list" somewhere.. hope admin dont think us JAFAs are taking over the whole meet up area

How did I miss this? I'm in the same boat with kidless friends, working during the week, and I don't drive so I can't catch up with the July girls. :(

It's late so I won't try to mess with the list. I'll just say we'd love to come to this first one (as long as it's not raining!) since public transport / feet can get us there...

Oh, and I guess we're east-central, since we're Mt Wellington-Ellerslie border (if someone less braindead wants to append us!)

lol this is a busy thread! Fliss has me pegged, I was procrastinating. I re-did the list instead of charting suspended metals concentrations in Auckland's stormwater and much as I'd love to take the credit, it wasn't me who suggested rotating the venues

There's lots of shade near the playground, and I suspect most of the kiddies are too little for the playground, but it shouldn't be tooooo noisy.

How about we say we meet under the trees next to the observatory carpark? (gotta love google maps streetview - not so much MS Paint on the new laptop)

I think if we make it between 12-3pm, most people will be able to make it for some of the time. You're right lilfatty, the ones with 2 sleeps will come earlier and the older ones later! That's ok though. Hopefully there'll be some crossover!

I'm happy with either the playground or band rotunda areas. If we pick the playground, perhaps we could find a spot a little way away from it, as it'll be really busy/noisy.

There seems to be a playground in the One Tree Hill part (on the Manukau Road side)

There is a band rotunda in the cornwall park side
(Greelane Road side)

Or there is always one of the gardens ..

So I suppose we just pick one of the areas to meet up then a time and post.

If its toddler sleeping time (we could do late 2ish) or like Kabe (I think it was Kabe) suggested just have it from a time (noon) .. and as and when bubs can go they can .. so you might get all the younger ones first and the older ones later??

From memory, I think the playground is off Manukau Rd, if we want to be near that. Might be quite busy there though. There are lot of nice shady spots - good choice Flissty's DH!

um...re: the time you will probably find that most of the toddlers have an early afternoon nap and this is where the time will get messy. We will probably end up coming later, as Ella sleeps between 11-1 and then has a late lunch (sometimes doesn't eat lunch until 2).

If we draw one out of a hat .. then there is no discussion (and definately yes on the non admission).

Maybe we could organise so the last meetup in a month includes the admissioned venues.

Could you draw two .. one for the first meetup and then another for the second. Then those that couldnt make this one, can plan for the next.

Oh and I think lunch is usually later than 11am .. so 12-1.00??

Narrow-neck beach also has a little dairy which sells (among other things) Jester's Pies.

Ok I would add babykatz to the list .. but I dont know exactly where to put her on Weegees updated list by area, so could someone do that for me.

Kabe's right setting a time will be the hard part (especially with all the different aged bubbas and sleep routines)

What about lunchtime? I mean all kids have lunch

i think the plan is to rotate areas, so everyone ends up with a gathering near them. and i'm pretty open to time oh, and think i've convinced DH to come too!

and just thinking out loud... since theres a few of us from all over, why not make it central so some of us arent travelling ages to get there, the majority of us will only have to travel a little bit to get to central, as opposed to Southies going North, or vice versa...

Ooooh, count me in! I live in Manurewa (as the bit in my profile over there <--- says lol) and I dont mind what time so long as I can be back in Otahuhu by 3.30pm for a friends wedding lol!

Oh and I can bring the mandatory cheesecake I make a nice plain with no eggs one, and sprinkle flake over top... yummmmy! (Trust me, I have tried lots of cheesecakes, my mums recipe is the best so far, Crofters comes a very close second when I cant be assed making my own lol)

Pulling venues out of a hat sounds good, but I reckon we should make sure that the venues are proportional to the people - eg so far there are lots of north shore places but not so many westie places despite a fair few westies!

I had an old friend pop in last weekend with her wee girl whose 2 months older than lucas. He was continuously going up to her and giving her loads of cuddles and kisses, we're talking nice headlocks haha! Her mother turned around and asked me what I've been teaching him lol - I said as long as he doesn't start lifting his leg or doing any funny business, I'm OK with it . Soooo cute though. Has a thing for the ladies

I dont have very many friends either. I lost all of my school friends when I had Janaya. And now Ive lost all my workmates because Im at home with Jackson. I have 2 non-baby friends but to be honest I find it really hard to hold conversations, all I want to talk about is babies and children and all they want to talk about is travel and careers.
