My mum made the newborn size with velcro and it fitted my sister's little boy til he was about 12wks. But when she made the small/medium size she put snaps on instead of the velcro, which my sister thinks is better now that he's moving. thanks kiwivic, i thought i was doing them tight enough but perhaps not. i was finding i had to do the strap on a slight angle as we made them with velcro & it used to rub his tummy a bit much. maybe i will try them once he wakes & try doing them tighter.

I have made a small/medium sized one but it's at mum's but will still be too big for David yet i think.

If you're getting leaks out the sides are you sure you're doing them up snug enough at the legs? I only ask because people new to MCNs often don't do the legs up snug enough (it's certainly what I found with family members & friends) and that is sure to cause leaks. My mum made up a whole bunch of Wee Weka nappies both in newborn and small/medium for my sister and she never has any problems with leaks. She uses a homemade microfibre insert with a hemp booster.

thenappynetwork.org.nz has some patterns. I found the wee weka one good.  As for a new born, I used prefolds and covers but also found the joel eze pockets quite good and I had one tweedle...they were nice and little.  I think Tom was a bit older when I started with bum genius....maybe 3months.....maybe not.

Hi Chonny,

My Mum has made me a heap of OSFA nappies using a pattern called KCK One. I think it cost about $5 - I can find out where to get it for you if you're interested.

I use the nappies on my 14mth old at the mo and I stuff using a cloth flat and add a bamboo or hemp booster at nights. The nappies are so trim and I never get surprise leaks. hi ladies, i made a pocket nappy for my 2yo but found it leaked out the sides as had no leg gussets. can't remember the site for nappy patterns so if someone can please remind me that would be great. also, what have people found is the best nappy for littlies? little David has quite skinny legs & tiny bottom.... Big wetter tho from what i can tell.
