Author: Maya
Subject: 22552
Posted: 23 November 2008 at 8:42pm

I've found #4 has fitted in pretty easily, can't comment on #3 coz she arrived 3 minutes after #2 so I wasn't a mum of two for very long! The older three love their baby sister, and she's been a great baby - she's so flexible, sleeps in the capsule when we're out and about no worries and is pretty easy going.

The hardest part for me tho was pregnancy. I get hyperemesis during pregnancy and spend the entire 9 mths vomiting, I found my pregnancy with the gremlins was manageable as Maya was 3 and semi-independent. I could set her up with some crayons and paper or a DVD and then go back to bed if I needed to, and she was at preschool during the week.

But being pregnant with Chiara was horrid, the gremlins were 12 mths when I found out I was preg and 20 mths when she was born and I really, really struggled. I remember one day where I couldn't get out of bed without passing out or vomiting and poor Maya had to get the gremlins up and feed them (I ended up in hospital). They were (and still are) really demanding which I found hard to cope with when I was preg.

Like the others have said, it's all worth it when you see your bub, but I wouldn't do the small age gap again for anything. Having a baby and a toddler is a piece of cake but being pregnant with a toddler for me is just too hard!

Once #3 comes along you already have a certain amount of routines in place etc as well as plenty of baby experience. Also you probably have your DH more trained than when you just had 1 . It's also a bonus that the older two children play together when you are with baby - rather than the eldest feeling like they have lost their playmate (as is the case when you have #2).
