Author: emz
Subject: 22498
Posted: 17 November 2008 at 8:55pm

Runny naps (not diarrhoea but just runnier than normal), irritability, ear infections (very common link.. DS has just got one from teething this time around), red cheeks, hot cheeks, runny nose, chewing everything, wanted to drink more and eat less, waking in the night. Also, nappy rash due to the runny naps and also their pee can become more acidic due to the changes going on in their bodies.

It is very possible but yes pays to get ears checked as the canals are so small and straight when they're young that one thing can lead on to other problems, as we have found out every time he's had a bad run with teething.

Plus, teething should never make babies sick. It can cause other things which can lead to sickness but teething alone shouldn't.

(Oh, and follow your instincts - everyone told me DS was ready for solids blah blah blah (which he was a few weeks later but not at 3 months) and 'no they don't start teething at 10 weeks' but I just knew he was. Sure enough it continued and at 4.5 months he started popping the teeth out.)

DD2 has two teeth and is getting another two at the moment, she has swollen gums and they look a bit red and she is dribbling heaps and playing with her ears.

emmag - barrier cream is good for the dribble rash, nappy rash cream or vaseline too.

Some of the signs were clear runny nose, eating less, red cheeks, white patches on his gums, having trouble sleeping at night but not actually crying.
