I have also noticed Jackson is able to control the flow these days a lot better.

On the positive side - at least you have heaps of milk! That's great!!

Have you thought about expressing a bit before feeding? Then you can freeze some but also Finley will get more hind milk, which will probably be good for his weight as well.

    Author: VannesaD
Subject: 22325
Posted: 09 November 2008 at 8:36pm

I hear (and feel) what you're saying .. I suffered badly with my first DD. My mw told me to buy parafin wax gauze strips to put on my nipple - this allows them to heal (with the creams you've already got) but stops the scab from sticking to anything while they are healing (and then ripping off time and time again). You can get it from the chemist - it comes in a little white plastic container and you can cut it down to size so you don't waste it. That with the use of purelan and a nipple shield got me through six months of breastfeeding. It does heal and it does get easier - just takes a bit of time and TLC. Good luck!

I have a nasty nick on my left side which bleeds when lil miss is feeding, this morning she even spilled up blood after her feed And can totally relate to the shoulders-up-round-the-ears thing too!

But like Neeks said, it will heal, and as long as bub is latching properly now it will heal even with him feeding off it. I've had a lot of problems with my nipples this time due to excessive milk supply, my milk lets down too fast for her to cope and also coz she has been unwell. I've found Purelan is great, it "seals up" the cracks almost making them heaps less painful.

The other thing I've found great is Pimafucort which is a steroid/antifungal/antibiotic ointment. You can only get it on prescription but it is a miracle cure - one or two applications make a huge difference.

(I had a bleb (nipple blister) for weeks and weeks.. ended up having to use a shield during feeding to let it heal) If you feed on the side that's not sore first his latch wont be as strong and hence not so painful..
Use plenty of lanolin based nipple cream and if you can avoid it don't use breast shields between feeds because if you leak heaps like I did you end up stuck to the shield and it rips when you take it off and you have to start all over again.... Also, if you can... go bra-less for a while... the fresh air will do it the wonder of good

I hope this helps

Good luck
