K-mart has the shell paddling pools/sandpit on special for $25 til Weds! A pair of them too, so the bottom and the lid. Hehe our neighbor has that wheels on the bus toy. Chloe already has a couple of dolls, one really nice baby from her great grandma and a couple from when I was little.

Thanks for the toy library idea, I should hunt one out!!

There are so many good ideas, thanks heaps... Chloe's grandma is getting her one of those shell paddling pool things for christmas, but I like the idea of a ride-on/push around thing (although at this stage I can't imagine her walking in a few months!!) I should also get her some blocks... it seems every kid has blocks and loves them.

We have the wheels on the bus toy too, SIL bought it for his birthday, I have to hide it sometimes though or at least turn the music off cos it can tend to drive you insane.

When Ella was that age she was just starting to get into dolls...so that's a pretty safe bet. Also we got her a Fisher Price Laugh & Learn house when she was 6 months and she still plays with it everyday. Also ride-ons are also popular.

I second joining a toy library. I  ours are they alway have really cool toys, that would otherwise be really expensive to buy.

Hi LB. The toys you've made for Chloe sound great ... Jimmy's fav toy at the mo is a coke bottle with a bit of water and dishwashing liquid in it that makes bubbles when he rolls it around (the lid is screwed on ultra tightly of course!). At Christmas I'm sure he'll be more interested in the wrapping paper and cardboard boxes than anything .

Everyone has already given you great ideas for presents, but I just wondered whether you'd thought about joining a toy library in the mean time? There seem to be a few to choose from in Dunedin - linky. We've recently joined up with our local one. Has heaps of toys to hire for minimal cost, ours loans them out for 2 weeks at a time. You can get everything from shape sorters to bouncy castles.

Tom loves his!  I got it off trademe wheh he was only about 6 months and he still plays with it.  We find the people all over the place.

Spencer loves to crawl through his tunnel and the one we have can go outside as well, I got if from Toymania but have seen the same one in toyworld. The other thing he loves is his pool full of balls, that was from Kmart and cost $20, can put water in it during the summer too, just don't let cats near it, mine put a hole in it but yay for duct tape.
He loves anything that rolls that he can chase, puzzle pieces and blocks oh and books.
For outside, warehouse etc sell some reasonable priced swings if you have a tree or something else suitable to suspend from or maybe one of those plastic sandpit thingys.
We are about to get Spencer a spring bug as well cos he goes mental on the one at playgroup, have a look at www.springbugs.co.nz.

I'm going to get Keziah a wooden trolley from Toyworld with some blocks in it.. help her with walking and she can play with the blocks when she's not pushing the trolley around LOL

Keira was all into phones at this age. She was also obsessed with baby dolls at her first birthday.

Blocks and balls are always great.

And her ride on/walker was also a big hit.

JB - so far we have got this for Jack for his birthday/Xmas:

-clam shell sand pit/pool
-phone that says the numbers when pressed (don't know maybe Playskool? I remember playing with mine until I was about 6-7 so it'll last)
-a push along toy
-a cool periscope bath toy
-togs
-an inflatable swim ring with sunshade

Others are getting him:
-ball pit
-blocks
-those connecty things that are new out (like blocks but not IYKWIM - probably not!)
-a ride on toy

We've just bought a Leap Frog activity table which is proving to be a huge hit. Great if they are pulling themselves up to stand, and it has loads of different things to do on it. Hey, you can even switch it to a French mode!

My DD loves her books - go for small sized board books with pictures on things she can recognise. Lift the flap books are very popular atm and she can lift the flaps herself.

Paddling pool?

DD also likes balls and blocks (knocking over towers). Some blocks that are easy to stack would be good.

They also start putting things into other things at this age, so a shapo is good. A can't get the plastic block in the holes yet, but she tries. One of Olis favourite toys at the moment is his Fisher Price Rollarounds Treehouse (http://www.fisher-price.com/uk/products/product.asp?id=32466) he had lots of the balls, which he loves chasing around the wooden floors, and now he loves putting them down the shute in the tree house.

He also loves anything musical, so he can dance. He has a formula tin with pegs in which he LOVES banging on like a drum!
