This also meant the water stayed at a fairly constant temperature, and she was able to adjust it to suit me pretty quickly. Nathaniel was actually quite impressed with how swiftly and discretely Gaenor was able to do it - she was so good, I had no idea until he told me that she had! I was aware that she'd warmed up/cooled down the bath at my request, but I didn't have to get out at any point once I was given the go-ahead to start pushing.

I'm not going to tell my mum for a while though, because I think it will freak her out - she is doing more than enough worrying for the both of us (she is somewhat sensitive to all this media carry-on I think).

    Author: deharn
Subject: 2116
Posted: 12 April 2006 at 1:23pm

Hey Jax I can not stress enough just how much easier labour is in the pool - BIG TIME!!!!!

The comparison of a contraction out of the birthing pool compared to in the water is just so amazing.

My midwife was very pro water birth and we decided late into the pregnancy that we would have one. I unfortunately didn't deliver in the pool. My labour began at 1.30am, went to the hospital at 3am and straight into the pool. I got out a couple of times to go to the loo and check dilation. Then I had to get out at 6.50am so the midwife could break my waters. The instant she did that I had to push continuosly and couldn't get off the bed. Delivered at 7.02am.

So I was bit gutted i didn't get to have my delivery in the pool BUT my point is it makes labour so much easier!!!!!!!

And a little tip for those who are going to deliver if standing on your head naked on the roof of the hospital makes labour easier -you will do it!!!!!!!

I used no pain relief either because of the pool, had no stitches and Sam was 9lb11oz. Hoping the pool contributed to that and not that fact that possibly I am like the grand canyon I was then home in my own bed by 9.30am!

Author: jax
Subject: 2116
Posted: 11 April 2006 at 8:56pm

Whew ! Didn't know if I could cram everything into the title LOL

Had my physio appointment this morning, which was really good - am going to go weekly, but have my Bella Mama massages as well, which I must remember to book She gave me an exercise to do for my back, which should be quite good, and if I do it regularly could help with labour as well.

Had my appointment with my "new" midwife as well, and I'm stoked - I really like her and her approach to things, so I think it will go pretty well Am even quite seriously contemplating a water birth, as it was one of the things I had wanted to ask about anyway. Still planning to deliver at Birthcare too, which is good

And I *almost* forgot again, as I was supposed to do it last night, but booked in for antenatal classes at North Shore Hospital. They'll be on Thursday nights for six weeks and the lady I spoke to said it was good timing for when I'm due, we'll finish up when I'm about 33 weeks I think. There are going to be eight couples in total, I'm almost more interested in how Roland is going to find the classes than what I might find out or learn LOL

Anyway, that's all my "news" really, am going to TRY and sign off soon, another early start tomorrow (7am, ick !)...
